Study Abroad Diaries: We’re (almost) halfway there!

By Kayla Keegan
March 15, 2013 - 10:33am

I am in the middle of midterm season, which means little sightseeing and a lot of reading and writing papers. I am eager to write one of my semester-long research papers, which includes investigating the role of social class in British society. One thing I have noticed while being in London is how British natives seemed to be obsessed with identifying and classifying everyone.   After seven long weeks of academics, NYU collegiettes are rewarded with a fabulous, week long, spring break vacation. Some students will rush off to Florida for fun in the sun while others head home for time with the family. However, many NYU undergraduates will be spending their spring break right on campus. Staying in the city for spring break does not mean that Collegiettes will have a boring and lackluster vacation. By taking advantage of your free time with a combination of relaxation and exciting activities, students staying on campus will end their spring break refreshed and ready to take on the second half of the semester.  READ MORE

The drinking age in the UK is 18, and I am 20...so I am bound to have a drink from time to time...to time...to time. I am in no means a regular drinker, so coming to London has really expanded my horizons and allowed me to try drinks I normally wouldn’t. READ MORE

Disney’s The Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful, out in theatres today, tells the story of Oscar Diggs (James Franco), who goes by the moniker “Oz”, a Kansas native small-time magician in a travelling circus who spends more of his time charming the local ladies than performing actual tricks.  After the townsfolk learn that he is a fraud, cue Oscar’s great escape via a hot air balloon which is sucked into a twister.   READ MORE

Study Abroad Diaries: Missing the Bloke

By Kayla Keegan
March 3, 2013 - 12:12pm

Ok I can’t hide it anymore: I miss my boyfriend like crazy. I still can’t get the image out of my head of looking over my shoulder at him for the last time in the airport. After that final glance, I didn’t look back again. The people at airport security kept asking if I was alright as I wiped tears away from my face and pulled out my passport and boarding pass: it was time to be brave and it was time to be strong. Can I get Yo Numbah? Can I get it?

By Janette Valenzo Venegas
February 24, 2013 - 11:54am

Remember those romantic comedic movies when the boy goes up to the girl and shuffles his feet and politely asks his love interest for those magical numbers that will gain access to speaking with her? Yeah, I don't either… I do remember that video from MAD TV, where Yvonne was being asked, "Can I get yo numbah? Can I get it?" desperately in the middle of a movie theatre. But there is no way that actually happens, right? These guys and girls beg to differ. READ MORE
