7 Ways To Give Your Dorm A Make-Over During Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

As the weather in New York gets warmer and we swap out our coats for lighter dresses, it is also the right time to peel out our dorms’ dark hazes and let some spring sunlight in. Here are some ideas for simple and cute crafts that you can make during spring break to officially usher in the flower season:

DIY Shower Curtains

We all know that our daily shower time is the ultimate “me-time” so make your “me-time” colorful by using this tutorial to take your DIY shower curtain experience to a whole new level. A vibrant shower curtain can boost your energy and get your day off to a good start if you are an early bird. Not to mention, it is always a great way for night owls to end the day too. Your roommate will also love you for giving their “me-time” a new glow as well.

DIY Colored Ping Pong Ball String Lights

Is there anything else apart from colorful lights that can cheer up your mood right away? Probably not. These colorful ping pong ball string lights instantly add spring vibes to your dorm room. The matte material of the lights produce a soothing feel and can be left on throughout the night because they aren’t too bright. You will practically be in fantasy land all night long.

DIY Upcycled Wrapping Paper Clock

A digital clock can never replace the classic touch of traditional clocks. That’s why this upcycled wrapping paper clock will give you the traditional clock theme with a pop of color and detail. Not only is the clock a great way to practice your clock reading skills, but you also won’t feel lethargic in your white walled backdrop. The clock is easy to customize with simple steps. What a great way to use your time!

DIY Tea Tin Magnets

Sometimes, I just can’t stress how beautiful tea tins are. After finishing your tea, use these vivid-colored tins as decorations for your mini-fridge in the dorm room, rather than discarding them. All you have to do is stick a magnet inside the tin and place it against your refrigerator. It serves as a great pen-holder or utensil holder for all our inner multi-taskers. You can also use other tins the same way. Always recycle first!

DIY Embroidery Hoop Hamper

Don’t throw away your old pillow cases! You can make them into a embroidery hoop hamper so your dirty clothes will have somewhere radiant to be stocked in as well. You can hook them onto your bathroom door or a wall if you share bathrooms with other people. You will definitely shine when you bring these hampers down to the laundry rooms where everyone has the typical Bed Bath Beyond hampers. Be unique in the face of normality.

DIY Floral Wire Quotes

Put your favorite inspirational quote on your dorm wall using floral wires. An effective way to keep you motivated, the quotes will also add an aesthetic feel to your dorm room. When you get tired of seeing the quote, you can easily make a new one without breaking your budget. You can even create an Instagram feed with a series of these quotes as a relaxing pastime. It’s a great way to gain popularity and have an authentic front on social media.

DIY Colored Cork Boards

As college students, we all know how useful corkboards are. Add some color to your cork boards using this tutorial. It has been proven that the human eye tends to catch on to color more, so maybe to-do lists on these colored cork boards will be what gets you through all those midterms without an all-nighter or Red Bull by your side. You never know, so why not try?
