A 15 Song Playlist To Get You Ready For Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Spring is on its way, and I couldn’t be more excited. Though it hasn’t been a particularly cold winter, I’m ready for weather that entices me to wander around the city with upbeat music in my headphones. That being said, I feel like upbeat indie/pop songs often get a reputation for being less interesting and clever than the slower, thought-provoking ones we’ve been listening to all winter, which I don’t think is entirely true. While it can be a lot easier to focus in on the lyrics of slower tunes, upbeat songs are frequently more than just a driving beat. To get you all ready for spring, I’ve put together a 15-song-playlist of indie/pop songs with driving beats, clever and catchy lyrics, and a general tone in line with the various feelings inspired by the season. I’ve chosen songs that are perfect for a more active lifestyle – the kind of music perfect for listening to on long walks around the city or taking your camera out for an afternoon.

1.  Sober – Niykee Heaton

I’ve never heard a song about getting sober that’s this much fun.

2.  Drive – GLADES

This carefree love song feels like spring; with such hopeful lyrics, it’s a great song to mark the beginning of something new.

3. Feels – Kiiara

These lyrics are clever from start to finish. It’s the kind of song that’s satisfying to hear through your headphones regardless of your mood.

4. Love Me Like That (feat. Carly Rae Jepsen) – The Knocks

The beat on this song is killer, and Carly Rae Jepsen has a great voice that’s a perfect match for the energy of spring.

5. Chewing Gum – Nina Nesbitt

With lyrics like, “Cause I’m a made-up mess in a backless dress / I don’t wanna lead you on, cause I’d only do you wrong,” this is the perfect song to listen to while you get ready to go out on a Friday night.

6. YOUTH – Troye Sivan

With Troye Sivan’s soothing voice layered over a catchy mix of beats, this song is perfect for a stroll around Central Park.

7. Ocean – Devon Baldwin

This song’s a little slower than the others on this list, but the simplicity of the instrumentation and Devon Baldwin’s gorgeous voice are attention-grabbing and make great walking music.

8. Electric Love – BØRNS

This song is just fun-it makes you feel like moving. It’s a must-have for spring.

9. Circles – machineheart feat. Vanic

Looking for something inspirational that doesn’t feel clichè? Look no further – this song talks about not giving up without ever feeling preachy.

10. Hello – Allie X

A little more traditionally pop than the others on this list, Allie X delivers a catchy track about an unexpected relationship.

11. Lonely Cities – Tigertown

With an awesome beat and catchy instrumentation, this song is perfect to blast in your headphones when you get out of class or work for the day.

12. Leave a Trace – CHVRCHES

With powerful lyrics and equally engaging beats, CHVRCHES delivers a scathing, but fun and empowering track that’s perfect for busy spring days.

13. Monster Lead Me Home – Sara Hartman

The vocals, music, and lyrics come together on this track to produce a freeing feeling in the listener perfect for chilly spring nights.

14. Only Love – Ben Howard

The instrumentation and vocals on this song are intimate and satisfying. It’s a great choice for days when you want something more raw to listen to.

15. Tired of Talking – LÉON

LÉON’s whole Treasure EP is really good, but this song is a standout. Her voice is not only fun, but also soulful and powerful.
