You Can’t Buy Happiness, But You Can Buy Cake: Nottingham’s Best Dessert Destinations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

With more places to eat and drink per square mile than any other city in Europe, (trust me it’s a fact, UoN uses it as a selling point in its brochures), Nottingham is truly the home of the foodies. While it’s all good and well roaming endlessly around our city’s streets in search of somewhere to eat in the summer months, now that it’s FREEZING, this might be the go-to-guide you need to consult. Why? Dessert makes everything better. Your boyfriend just broke up with you? Dessert. You’ve been back in lectures and seminars for a mere few weeks and you’re already overwhelmed? Dessert. You don’t remember how it feels to not be tired? Dessert.

You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy cake…and chocolate, and doughnuts, and more cake. So if like me, you love desserts but you’re hardly Mary Berry in the kitchen, get your coat on, choose one of Notts’ dessert hotspots and thank me later.

Unless you are one of those, “I’m not a dessert person” people.

  1. The Pudding Pantry

Head to Trinity Square near Turtle Bay and The Gym (the irony), and you’ll find one of my favourite places in Nottingham. The Pudding Pantry has so many options to choose from; whether you fancy cake, a gourmet hot chocolate, cookies, brownies, or anything else you can think of, this place is perfect for a date with your best friend.

2. Heavenly Desserts

Conveniently located on Angel Row, Heavenly Desserts describe themselves as “the luxury dessert experience” offering countless combinations to create your chosen pudding. One of the most popular desserts on the menu, “I’ll Have What She’s Having”, is an American style waffle, topped with chocolate, strawberries and ice cream.

3. The Nottingham Doughnut Company

Situated right in the heart of Old Market Square and tucked away next to Shakeaway, The Nottingham Doughnut Company is easy to miss, but once found it’s impossible to forget. Nottingham’s first independent donut company puts Krispy Kreme to shame, with amazing variety and even vegan options. Check out their Instagram, @thenottinghamdoughnutco to see their amazing creations.

4. Patisserie Valerie

Patisserie Valerie is right across from Primark serving to-die-for cakes and pastries. Check out Groupon for a discount on their incredible afternoon tea for two, which includes a selection of sandwiches, pastries, scones and tea for just £19.

5. Shake Mad

Shake Mad is Nottingham’s top rated home-delivery milkshake, available to order on Deliveroo, HungryHouse and Just Eat if you can’t be bothered to go and get your dessert yourself. Not only do they offer Kinder Bueno, Maltesers, and Nutella milkshakes to name a few but, you can also order waffles, brownies, cake or pancakes right to your door. We have peaked as a species.
