Wanderlust and Fairy Dust: 5 Magical Places To Visit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Pixies, lost boys and fairy Godmothers may belong to Disney films and fables, but your earthly kingdom is as mystical as Neverland!

Discover the otherworldly on Earth: 5 magical places where Fairy tales DO exist!

The Efteling, Holland.

Booking a weekend trip to Amsterdam? Leave the red light district for the adults and rediscover your innocence at the largest fairy-themed theme park in The Netherlands.  Meet Rumpelstiltskin, Tom Thumb and Sleeping Beauty after visiting Hansel and Gretel’s gingerbread cottage.  Ride the genie’s magic flying carpet, feed the burping bins your litter and then stop for a chat with the mighty talking oak tree.

El bosc de les fades (The Fairies’ forest bar), Barcelona.

Be bewitched by the secrets of this quirky bar nestled in the backstreets of the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona.  Trickling waterfalls, waxwork fairies, gnomes and twinkly lights complete the woodland décor of this magical grotto. Rekindle your childhood love of Tinkerbell whilst sipping a potion of sorceress’ sangría and cocktails in the company of elves and nymphs. Gobble down tapas with the goblins while you’re at it!

The Tunnel of Love, Switzerland.

Dream date? Have true loves first kiss with Prince Charming under the twisted branches of this romantic two-mile long passageway.

The Enchanted Forest, England.

Revisit your childhood fantasies in the not so faraway land of Kent, Groombridge Place. For a great day out, ramble through the toad stalls and crunchy autumn leaves and wander deep into the woods of the Enchanted Forest.  Push the hidden oak door into the secret garden and get lost in winding mazes. Soar high above the treetops like Peter Pan and Tinks on supersize swings fit for a big friendly giant. (‘You can fly! You can fly! You can fly’!)

Fairy-tale creatures?

Forget flying unicorns and stroke the mane of the zee-donk! This mysterious cross between a zebra and a donkey would make an ideal noble steed for Prince Charming!

Alcazar of Segovia, Spain.

Not spellbound yet? This beautiful Princess castle- which inspired the Walt Disney palace- might charm you…
