Top 5 Fashion Picks for the 2015 Festival Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

It may seem a far away dream whilst you are sitting in library drowned in exam revision trying to understand what Virginia Woolf was really talking about or remembering yet another Spanish grammar rule, but the summer is nearly upon us my friends! For me going to festivals, drowning in mud and music rather than paper, is one of my favourite times of the year. Whilst you may be camping and can’t quite remember the last time you had a shower, it is still fun to dress up in your boldest clothing to have a party with your friends and thousands of other people. So whether you will be swaying along to Fleetwood Mac at Isle of Wight or moshing at Leeds to Metallica, these picks should give you a head start on planning your festival wardrobe.

Rain Coat

We are in Britain, not LA or the South of France, so a something to keep off the occasional dribble to a dramatic downpour is necessary. A good jacket will keep you from getting soaked and therefore stopping you from being miserable so it is a must.  Preferably test your coat before you go,  the people who obviously thought they bought a ‘waterproof’ jacket but instead found out a plastic bag would have equipped them better can be seen from miles away still dripping hours after the last rain storm.

This Rain Mac from ASOS has a wax finish which should keep you dry in most types of weather and is light enough to put in your bag when the sun does make an appearance.  The pink detailing looks great with the navy which will complement any outfit you are wearing underneath.

Hat

Whilst a hat may seem a bit pretentious or annoying to wear all day, a festival is time you can get out your more striking garments. Also, more importantly, after not washing your hair for a few days it gives you the appearance of sophistication even when your roots are looking far from their best.

This fedora from Topshop is casual enough for a festival and the feather banding is great for completing a boho look.

Wellington Boots

Boots are another essential you cannot go without. Over the years several variations on the classic welly including a high heeled version have appeared onto the market but I prefer the classic boot, in the end they will get mud on them. I had a pair from Joules last year and they kept my feet dry for a whole week at Glastonbury.

This pair from Joules are currently on sale and the traditional green will stand you in good stead for years.

Bum Bag

The 80′ s Bum Bag often has a bad name with it’s try hard hipster associations but at a festival it really is useful! In my naivety, at my first festival when I was still in college, I went to Leeds intending to use my handbag which is never a good idea. If you want to enjoy yourself and actually move when the bands are on, this trusty piece of kit will hold your phone and even some alcohol whilst you party away.

I found this colourful number on ASOS for only a tenner and if you want to invest I swear you can get any pattern or colour your heart desires if you look hard enough.

Band T-shirts

Whilst the music may not be the only reason you go to a festival, it is probably the most important. It’s really fun to put on your favourite band’s merch and be an unashamed fan girl for the day.

Obviously which one you have will depend on your musical taste but aesthetically speaking  this Young and The Giant top is great.
