Questions We Have For ‘The Last Jedi’ Teaser Trailer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

It’s been a couple of weeks since ‘The Last Jedi’ trailer dropped and we have a lot of questions.

It’s the first teaser trailer that has been released with the official movie arrive at a cinema near you on the 15th December 2017. The movie is set to follow directly after the events of ‘The Force Awakens’ and after this trailer, we have more questions than answers.

1. Is the resistance base under attack?

It’s just for a brief second, but the trailer cuts to Poe and BB-8 running to their aircraft, which abruptly explodes. Could the film open with Poe and BB-8 escaping from a First Order attack on their home base? And if so, where’s Finn? Where’s Leia? Where’s the obligatory sexual tension escape scene like in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’?

2. Will we get answers from TFA?

This scene shows R2-D2 and from what we can assume is Luke Skywalker walking towards a burning building – is it from the flashback that we saw in TFA? Or is it following from a battle we’re about to see in ‘The Last Jedi’? Either way, hopefully it’ll give us the opportunity to get the answers to the question we were given in ‘The Force Awakens.’

3. What will happen to Finn?

It’ll be a waste if John Boyega doesn’t wake up in ‘The Last Jedi’ and of course he will, but when? It looks as if he’s being transported somewhere – strengthening the theory of the Resistance Base getting attacked – but how long will he be under? And if he does wake up, will he have Rey and Poe by his send? (Side note: the hospital bed is a nice parallel to his old Stormtrooper costume).

4. Will Rey complete her training?

From the trailer, we see Rey being trained by Luke in studying the ways of the Force – the light, the dark, the balance, she answers. The movie follows only seconds after the first movie, which doesn’t leave Rey a lot of time to practice anything, let alone reach the same level of training that Luke did from Yoda. Will that be a plot point in the movies or will we see Rey eventually take on a new master?

5. Will we find out about Rey’s parents?

‘The Force Awakens’ left us with a lot of questions, but one of the most important was: who were Rey’s parents? Most of the audience splitt off into her being the daughter of Luke, granddaughter of Obi-Wan, or daughter to Han and Leia. It wasn’t answered and apparently was left ambiguous specifically for later films to reveal – will it be this one or the next one coming out in 2019?

6. What will Kylo Ren do?

After Episode 7, Kylo Ren was left bloodied and in the middle of nowhere with the First Order picking him up to ‘complete his training.’ The shot doesn’t show his scar but it leaves us to wonder where he’ll be – is he still the main villain or will be he edged out in favour for Snoke?

7. What does ‘The Last Jedi’ mean?

“I only know one truth … it’s time for the Jedi to end.”

From that, it sounds as if Luke will either create a new Jedi order or abolish it entirely. Does this mean that Rey will never truly become Jedi with Luke being the last?

Whatever happens, here’s hoping that Episode 8 will follow the lead of all the great Star Wars movies coming.
