Naughty New Nights in Notts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

When it’s time for fun and games we’re sure that you’ve got your favourites to head to – Crisis at Rock City on a Wednesday; Ocean on a Friday. But here at Her Campus, we’re looking to those new events which have hit the scene this academic year to see what all the fuss is about!

Monday – Antics, Oceana

Oceana on a Monday has long been known as ‘one to miss’- be it if you’re tight with your money and you’re wanting to pick one night out each week, or even if you’re a party animal who can afford to do everything!

However, the Mondays here have now been spiced up a bit with ‘Antics’ coming to Oceana. This swanky new event has managed to snap up Twisted’s resident DJ from last year as well as presenting to the student masses a brand new room for 2014: The Dungeon- which will play host to some of the dirtiest drum and bass, beats and breaks, deep house and electro.

But don’t worry all of you Oceana lovers of old, the infamous cheese room has remained so you can bop around to S Club 7 and Busted (a personal favourite of mine) to your heart’s content.

Tuesday – Black Milk, The Bowery

Black Milk offers us the first opportunity to add Nottingham’s brand new venue ‘The Bowery’ to our calendars. This event gives you a nice selection of music ranging from house to garage, alongside relatively decent prices for drinks (£2.50 for a Jagerbomb isn’t too pricey).

The new venue itself boasts a beautiful new bar in a “rare underground space” with a “state of the art sound system & heritage upholstery to create a unique industrial boutique club”. It seems like the perfect mix for a brilliant night out!

Thursday – Playground, Forum

Forum is a place that many have heard of before; however here we are presented with a brand new night which is looking to change up the scene and judging by student reactions, seems to be proving quite popular thus far.

The event describes itself as playing a mix of “Dance, Chart, RnB, Indie and Student anthems” from a new DJ. They are also promising guest DJs as well as themed events like “never before”. All this and a great selection of drinks including 2-4-1 Cocktail Buckets!

Thursday – TRIBE, Rescue Rooms

If Playground at Forum doesn’t take your fancy then why not try out Student Clubber’s new night ‘TRIBE’ which takes place at Rescue Rooms. The event description describes the love for TRIBE coming from three key entities: “House, Shots, Dance”. This gives you some idea of what this night is like, one word to describe it would be- mental!

I’ve been told that the House music offered is the generic/mainstream sort you may expect to hear every so often in Oceana or Ocean or at Crisis for example. So if the bamboo decorations and this sort of music entice you, then make sure you take a trip to Rescue Rooms for TRIBE one Thursday.

Friday – Bopp, The Bowery

Whilst not a new event, I’m including this here as a reminder to everyone that when Pandora’s Box announced they would be shutting down; the events would not be dying as well. For those who don’t know, Bopp boasts a great selection of indie and 60s music, alongside other styles such as surf or psych and beat.

All this and in a brand spanking new venue too (which plays host to a number of ping pong tables upstairs).
