The Most Outstanding Halloween Costumes of 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Halloween is an opportunity for us to step away from our dull lives and embrace our darker side for just one night of the year. Most of us make minimal effort for our outfits, merely splattering a few drops of fake blood on ourselves or tearing up a shirt. Halloween for celebrities, however, is a very different kind of event. They use this holiday to compete to see who can wear the most original, extravagant, or sexy costume possible – shock factor is imperative. Creativity is praised, and this year there were some truly excellent costumes.

Heidi Klum went all out this year, with her ingenious idea being to dress as herself – along with several other protégés who also dressed as Ms Klum. Undeniably winning points for originality, this costume ensured Heidi was the centre of attention all night, whether it was she or her glamorous clones whom were being seen.

The award for best family costume can only go to Beyoncé, Jay Z and their daughter Blue Ivy. Whilst the scare factor may be lacking from their retro Barbie and Ken inspired costume, the likeness is uncanny, and this group costume is certainly one of the more imaginative – and wholesome – choices from celebrities this year.

Lewis Hamilton chose to dress as The Joker for Halloween, and the likeness is both impressive and utterly terrifying. With the most genuinely scary costume, seen here, Mr Hamilton certainly pulled out all the stops this year, to a marvellous effect.

Kylie Jenner’s costume may not be winning any awards for fear factor but the reality star was an impressive replica of Christina Aguilera in the music video for ‘Dirrty’. Miss Jenner is known for her risqué fashion sense, and she certainly did not disappoint with this provocative costume choice.

In my opinion though, the best costume of the holiday was, without question, pulled off by Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. The pair dressed as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump respectively, with another guest dressed as Bill Clinton – a hilarious ode to the ridiculous 2016 presidential campaign. This costume is without a doubt the most authentic – and well executed – 2016 Halloween costume.

I am a first year English student, and I hope to pursue a career in journalism once I finish my studies. I'm also hoping to spend some time studying abroad, and would like to use this opportunity to learn a language. In my free time I enjoy reading, doing yoga and listening to music.
