Now it’s finally December (hello advent calendar), Christmas is right around the corner, which means that Christmas party season is in full swing. For me, there’s no better excuse to throw on all the glitter I can find, do my best impression of a disco ball and completely glam up than the holiday season. Nothing screams Christmas makeup more than a sparkly gold eye, red lips and bold lashes, so here are my favourite products to achieve that festive look.
A primer is really important for a Christmas party as the likelihood is you’ll be dancing into the early morning, meaning you want your makeup to last and look as fresh at 3am as it did when you first put it on. The Becca Backlight Priming Filter is one of the best I’ve tried as not only does it ensure anything I put on top of it stays all night, but it also leaves a lovely glow to the skin, giving you that ‘lit-from-within’ look.
My favourite part of the whole look is the eyes – nothing beats a super sparkly gold eye. Some people prefer a subtler shimmer when it comes to eyeshadow, but for me, especially at Christmas time, I prefer a glittery look. Before finishing off my face makeup, I’ll apply my base shadows, which will be a neutral skin-tone colour all over the lid, with a warm brown tone in the crease as a transition colour, before going straight in with the glitter. It’s important to use a glitter glue underneath the glitter so it sticks properly – my favourite is the NYX Glitter Primer. Then I’ll pile on the glitter, my one of choice being the LASplash Crystallized Glitter in Gold Rush. I’ll finish off the eyes with a thin black winged liner and some killer lashes, which, as the creature of habit that I am, are always the Huda Beauty Camille lashes.
I’ll then finish off my face makeup with a full coverage foundation, poppin’ highlighter and a sharp contour, before moving onto lips. A classic red lip is always fitting for this time of year so I always choose to pair my gold eye with one. When going for bright colours, I prefer a matte finish, and my favourite is Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Red Carpet Red. Make sure to use a lip liner to stop bleeding! Finish off the look with a setting spray to keep your makeup lasting all night, and you’re good to go!
