The Major Keys to Success This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

With exams finally over and, you may be looking for some tips to make the rest of your year a greater success. Taking inspiration from our generation’s great motivational speaker DJ Khaled, Her Campus are here with some key tips that will guarantee you success.

1. “The key to success is to keep your head above water”

As the semester has just started, this is a great chance for you to get organised and make sure you stay on top of your work and activities. Whether it’s sorting out a filing system for your notes or getting a planner to organise your deadlines, this will ensure your workload doesn’t drown you. You don’t want to be that person running to hand in their essays at the last minute so make sure you organise your work and deadlines.

2. Make sure you get feedback

With exam results coming out soon, it’s easy to simply look at the grade and celebrate that we’ve just about passed. Although your modules may not be the same as last semester, often the techniques you use in your coursework or exams will stay the same. Getting feedback from your tutor on how you can improve- and actually making a note of it- will make you less likely to repeat the same mistakes this time round.

3. “Put your back into it”

Like Khaled says, “to make it thru the jungle, you’re gonna have to sweat.” If you’re graded for seminar participation, or coursework constitutes part of your overall mark, then putting a lot of effort into this and working hard will ease your own stress when the exams eventually roll round.

4. Use your holidays wisely

I know holidays are supposed to be the time for relaxation and limited work, but once the May exams creep up after the Easter holidays, you’ll regret not working. Starting your revision during Easter spreads out the workload and ensures you’re not cramming three months of content into a couple of days.

5. Get involved

Although our main priority may be getting our degree, getting involved on campus is also another important factor. Most employers will want well-rounded graduates, so joining a new society, or writing for a university publication- such as the wonderful Her Campus- is a great way to give you some balance in life and ease the stress.

6. Believe in yourself

Finally, you have to have some confidence. Even if you didn’t do so well last semester, believing you can this time around is the first step to ensuring your success.
