All of this week, we’re going to be sharing experiences of University of Nottingham students in various sports societies. We hope this will encourage you to #GetInvolvedAtUoN !

Her Campus Nottingham lifestyle blogger Siena Hocking is an avid member of Hockey Society at UoN. We talk to her about her experiences with the sport and how she got started!

When did you start playing hockey?

I started hockey in school in Year 4 purely because I’d gone from a state school to prep school and sport was mandatory there.

Why do you like it?

I originally liked it because me and my friends were a sporty bunch so it was another way of having fun together and probably made us closer due to being part of a competitive team.

Have you been involved in any competitions?

At my secondary school we went to U16 nationals for hockey and obviously played various leagues and tournaments etc as well as regular county matches.

What is the best part about the playing hockey at university?

The friends you make out of being part of the society! You spend a lot of time together, what with matches and socials, so you develop some great friendships which just makes Wednesdays the best day of the week easily.

What would you say to any students wanting to get involved?

I have zero regrets joining and would highly recommend it to anyone who’s a decent level of hockey – it’s definitely been the highlight of uni so far for me.
