BREAKING: Introducing Jude Law as Dumbledore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Exciting things are on the horizon, and yesterday the big news announced Jude Law has been cast to play the young, fresh new face Albus Dumbledore in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts. Although it’s a bit of a move away from Jude Law’s better known roles as the heartthrob (The Holiday) or sexy sidekick (Sherlock), audiences worldwide are getting excited for his emergence in the J.K. Rowling franchise as the young Albus.

Oscar-nominated actor Jude Law is officially next up to fill the shoes of Richard Harris and Sir Michael Gambon who shared the role of Headmaster of Hogwarts in the original Harry Potter films.

Due in November 2018, the sequel to Fantastic Beasts is already highly anticipated after the success of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. However, this latest announcement has even managed to briefly eclipse the excitement about Johnny Depp starring as Gellert Grindlewald.

Director David Yates has expressed excitement about working with Jude Law as the face of the multi-faceted and intriguing character the young Albus is set to be.

Although Jude Law has had Oscar nominations for his roles in 1999’s ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ and 2003’s ‘Cold Mountain,’ he has surprisingly not yet won. Could this breakthrough role as the universally adored and renowned Albus Dumbledore in a completely, previously unforeseen new light be the Oscar he’s been waiting for? Sadly fans will have to hold their breath until November next year to find out.
