5 City Destinations for a Summer Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Here at Her Campus, we know the struggle of revision-based procrastination. The endless YouTube videos of puppies or babies with hilarious laughs.

Why not make your procrastination worthwhile by checking out these top city-break destinations. Well, if you can’t be on a beach sipping cocktails, you can at least dream…

1) Barcelona

Barcelona has been voted a top destination for a short city stay because of its year-round festivities. Whether you’re interested in the rich cultural history of Catalan, the immense architectural buildings or simply relaxing on the 5km beach, Barcelona is a must destination! I’m so excited to be visiting Barcelona in June (yes – revision procrastination), hopefully it lives up to expectations!

2) Budapest

Renowned for its hot weather and sandy beaches, Budapest is a great destination to visit on a relaxing holiday. It’s perfect for music students with its growing nightlife and August music festival, Sziget. Performing this year – Florence and the Machine, Avicii, Kasabian and many more!

3) Amsterdam

Amsterdam is another city with a wealth of culture and history. Whether you want to visit Anne Frank’s house, explore Van Gogh’s artwork at the Rijksmuseum or row down the Canal, there is plenty to explore in this city.

4) Marrakech

Having visited Marrakech last summer on a volunteering project, I can honestly say that it is an up-and-coming and vibrant city. Promising extremely hot weather all summer long, why not get lost in the Medina market maze, ride a camel in the West Sahara or experience the traditions of the Berber people. (Yes – I did all of these things, be jealous!)

5) Berlin

And finally, Berlin. Who wouldn’t want to take selfies in front of the Berlin wall?! With famous buildings such as the German Parliament, The Reichstag, famous breweries and incredible shopping opportunities, Berlin is a perfect mixture of culture, shopping and alcohol indulgence.

Which one would you like to visit?
