If you thought Our Lady’s university was pretty before, just you wait. There’s arguably nothing more beautiful than Christmastime at Notre Dame. If you can bundle up and ignore the freezing temps, you’ll notice that ND looks her best under a blanket of glittering snow, her halls bedecked with trees, wreaths, and red ribbons. This holiday season, I implore you not to let looming finals and biting winds get in the way of your Christmas spirit. Here are some tips, tricks, and activities to keep you cheery all the way up until break. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, after all!

Winter Wardrobe

Every girl gets excited to pull out her fall wardrobe, but winter allows you to take it to the next level. Rock that awesome outerwear you’ve been waiting to wear all year. Whip your layering skills into shape—there’s nothing in your closet that can’t transcend the seasons with the addition of a sweater or a pair of tights. Feeling lazy? This is the season for you! A cute hat conceals just-got-out-of-bed head, and let’s face it, a parka is basically a cuddly comforter that you can wear.

Festive Food

Decompress by taking over your dorm’s kitchen and whipping up a seasonal snack for your friends to share! The whole hall will smell amazing and everyone will love you.

·      Update plain old puppy chow by tossing in some red and green M&M’s.

·      No one has to know that hot chocolate came from your Keurig…at least not once you’ve dressed it up with some whipped cream and crushed dining hall peppermints.

·      This recipe for Christmas cake batter truffles is a cute update on the traditional Christmas cookie…think of it more as a Starbucks cake pop.

Campus Craziness

Notre Dame’s simply teeming with Yuletide attractions this time of year, and you’d be a cotton-headed ninnymuggins to miss out…

·      Carroll Christmas- Hop into a horse-drawn carriage and allow yourself to be spirited away to a faraway land…where the fine young men of Carroll Hall await with music, dancing, and food.

·      The Main Building Christmas Tree- Our Mother of all Christmas trees. It’s your holiday decorating goals. It’ll make you cry.

·      Handel’s Messiah, as performed by the Notre Dame Chorale and Festival Baroque Orchestra, is a Christmas classic. Nothing will get you in the holiday mood faster, and I mean nothing. See it in DPAC December 4th and 5th.

·      December 3rd and 4th, delight your friends by stopping by Lafun’s Sorin Room to send them a Christmas elf bearing a cheery Christmas gram.

And…let’s not forget about…SNOWY DOME PICS!!!

Peace on earth and goodwill to all collegiettes. Merry Christmas from everyone here at Her Campus Notre Dame!!!

Ariana Zlioba is a sophomore Political Science major and a proud resident of Pasquerilla West Hall. She spends her free time exploring every minor Notre Dame has to offer and imagining the editor's notes she will write after she succeeds Anna Wintour as editor-in-chief of Vogue. Here is what she likes: Stephen Colbert, high heels, and that coconut coffee Waddick's has sometimes. Here is what she doesn't like: Permacloud. At any given moment you'll most likely catch her dashing across campus in between meetings, Dance Co. rehearsals, and other meetings.
