8 Power Ladies to Follow on Social Media

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

If a compilation was created of my most commonly repeated phrases, “Oh, she’s a blogger I follow” would definitely top the list.

Frequently, a picture will pop up on my feed of a person that I’ve never met, yet, I feel as though I know personally. Blogging, tweeting, and Instagram fame can get a bad rep sometimes. Critics say that people use the web as a platform to promote a certain lifestyle, brag about the clothes they own and the vacations they take.

However, the reality of the phenomena is that many of the ladies who garner renown on the internet are entrepreneurs and businesswoman in their own right, doing their best to embrace the modern social media circus in order to inspire and encourage thousands of people. You grow to know these people as you follow along on their adventures, business and personal alike; I hope you grow to love these ladies as much as I do!

Born in South Korea, Petric lived most of her life in Texas, where she also attended Rice University (she was a total stud soccer player there). Petric went on to move cross country multiple times, finally settling in New York City last year, where she continued updating her blog, View From 5 Ft. 2. Christine’s unique style and social media savvy (her readership base logs on from 162 different countries!) have landed her with spotlights in national magazines such as Glamour, New York, and Lucky.

Louise Roe: Television personality and author of Front Roe

Hailing from across the pond, UK beauty Louise Roe is perhaps best known for hosting the makeover show Plain Jane. When the MTV program originally ended in 2012 (it was later picked up by the Style Network in 2014), Roe focused on her writing, becoming a Vogue UK, Elle UK, and InStyle UK contributor before penning a non-fiction work of her own, Front Roe, which was released this spring. Currently residing in LA, Roe also works as an ambassador for MTV’s Bullied Campaign and Step Up Women’s Network.

Carly Heitlinger: Founder of The College Prepster , Contributing designer for Minnie x Emma and MapTote

Tampa native Carly is a personal favorite of mine. She began her blog The College Prepster in 2008 while a freshman at Georgetown and her readership has grown steadily ever since. Her style and her brand have become so well respected and known that companies such as MapTote and Minnie x Emma have sought her out as a contributing designer.

Carley Ochs: Founder of Bourbon & Boweties Jewelry Line

Twitter: @Boweties

Instagram: @prettysouth_, @bourbonandboweties

She may be a proud Florida State alumna, but you’ll totally be singing Carley’s praises when you see how adorable her jewelry line is! The story goes that Ms. Ochs’ brilliant business plan was born out of something totally casual (for the whole story on how B&B came to be, check out the profile that Her Campus FSU did on her here!). Today, Bourbon & Boweties sells over fifty thousand bangles a month. Dang, girl!

Courtney Adamo: Co-founder of Babyccino Kids

Matriarch of what Fenwick.com affectionately calls “Britain’s most stylish family”, Courtney Adamo turned a pastime into a profession along with two of her dearest friends in founding Babyccino Kids, every mother’s one stop shop for the most adorable children’s clothing. Since co-founding the site in 2007, Adamo has run yearly pop-up events all over the globe and served up serious #familygoals on social media.

Frédérique Tietcheu: Founder of SHE Unleashed; I Go By Frankie

Twitter: @igobyfrankie

Instagram: @igobyfrankie

When describing her social media presence, Frédérique, or Frankie, Tietcheu said, “Yes, I could have posted pictures of my outfit everyday, but I wanted more substance than that”. A vocal feminist, Frankie decided to change the dialogue on the portrayal of females in social media. She decided to launch The SHE Unleashed, a website where Frankie (or another member of her team) will become your personal stylist on a session by session basis.

After leaving her career in banking and then her career in digital merchandising, Frankie believes the SHE Unleased to be her magnum opus because not only can she utilize her skills as a stylist, but her efforts unleash the confidence of women everywhere.

Aliza Licht: Voice Behind @DKNYprgirl; author of Leave Your Mark

Twitter: @AlizaLicht

Instagram: @alizalichtxo

When Aliza Licht graduated from the University of Maryland, she wanted to become a plastic surgeon. Her future, however, revealed itself to be a different type of new-age beautiful, as she would go on to become the hugely popular yet completely anonymous voice behind the Twitter account @DKNYPRGirl. Working through the ranks of the fashion industry, Aliza would eventually be named one of fashionista.com’s “50 Most Influential People in NY Fashion” and one of the New York Daily News’ “Top 50 Most Powerful Women in New York”. Leaving the DKNY brand behind, Aliza became the nation’s favorite mentor when she released her fashion industry field guide Leave Your Mark  in 2015.

Windsor Western: Co-founder of HerCampus.com

Last but certainly not least, Windsor Western is one third of the reason that I’m writing this article and one third of the reason why we are able to visit this website on the reg. A 2010 graduate of Harvard University, Windsor (along with best friends Annie Wang and Stephanie Kaplan Lewis) launched HerCampus.com in 2009, and the rest was history.

Lydia Costello is a freshman at ND studying English and Film, Television, Theater with a concentration in film. She hails from the sprawling metropolis of Chesterton, Indiana (although she might tell you Chicago in an effort to sound more interesting), but is a proud Lyons lady while at home under the dome. When she's not blogging, writing for HCND, or being a pun master extraordinaire, Lydia can be found live tweeting awards shows and episodes of Downton Abbey over at @lydia_costelllo, taking Buzzfeed quizzes, asking to pet other people's dogs, and lying to herself about making Pinterest recipes. She's always up for a good cup of coffee and good conversation (if lost, please return to Starbucks). Keep calm and Go Irish!
