6 Bada** Women You Should Totally Be Obsessed With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

Politics has traditionally been a boys’ club, but with women making up more than half the population, that tradition is on the way out.

Here’s a list of awesome ladies making their way in DC and beyond and why you should be obsessed with them.

1. Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Who She Is: Second female ever to be appointed to the Supreme Court (in 1993!)

Why You Should Be Obsessed: She’s arguably the sassiest judge to ever take the bench. She’s tough as nails, like had cancer twice and heard arguments just over a week after surgery, tough. She’s 81 and works out harder than I do. She’s a champion of women’s rights. And she’s kind of notorious for her dissenting opinions. Not to mention, the woman knows how to rock a robe. Much love to Justice RBG.

2. Malala Yousafazi

Who She Is: Student, education activist, women’s rights activist, youngest recepient of the Nobel Peace Prize ever

Why You Should Be Obsessed: While Malala recently became internationally known for surviving a vicious Taliban attack for her work, she’s been adovocating for education rights since she was 11 and began blogging for the BBC about life in Pakistan’s Swat Vallley then acting as the subject of an award winning documentary. When she won the Nobel Prize, she waited until she finished lessons for the day, because she was only 17!

3. Saira Blair

Who She Is: The youngest state lawmaker in the country.

Why You Should Be Obsessed: She ran her entire campaign for the West Virginia House of Delegates out of her college dorm room… and won… by a 30% margin. Pretty cool, but makes all of us over the age of 18 feel super unaccomplished.

4. Wendy Davis

Who She Is: Texas State politician and Gubernatorial candidate/Queen of the Filibuster

Why You Should Be Obsessed: Even if you disagree with her pro-choice stances you can admire Davis’s story.  She was a single mom and teenage mother. She sent herself to junior college then on to TCU where she was first in her class. Then she graduated Harvard Law School and is now a progressive voice in the conservative base state of Texas.

5. Aung San Suu Kyi

Who She Is: Burmese politician and opposition leader

Why You Should Be Obsessed: Influenced by Ghandi, she is a major proponent of Burmese Democracy. She was held under house arrest for 21 years and was elected president though she’s not allowed to hold the office by the country’s constitution, receipient of the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize.

6. Hilary Clinton
