What to Expect from Halloweekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Back when we were in our elementary school days, Halloween was the day we looked forward to as a chance to go around to random houses, collecting as much free candy as our parents would allow. College, on the other hand, is an entirely different game. Halloween is no longer just a day, but an extended celebration that can last from anywhere from Tuesday to Saturday, commonly known as Halloweek/Halloweekend. This year, Halloween falls on a Friday, so those of you who have not experienced Halloweekend before, might want a little preview of what to expect. Here are some things you will definitely experience this Halloween.

So you’re sitting in class, patiently waiting for this daytime torture to end. All that anticipation for Halloween has you going insane!

But then your best friend tells you all about the plans for tonight, and you’re suddenly pretty pumped

You’ve been planning your costume for a while, and not to toot your own horn or anything, but it’s obviously the best Halloween costume ever known to mankind.

Then someone informs you that you are, in fact, expected to have a different costume for every night and you kind of freak out a little bit.

But you refuse to let this bit of bad news get you down. You debate wearing that same “Hot witch” costume for each night anyways.

But you figure nobody will be nearly as impressed with it after the second time you wear it.

So you start considering other options. You might decide that putting a modern twist on some old, classic literary figure would make a great costume…

Multiple pop cultural references combined into one costume is always quite the crowd-pleaser.

You could just be your favorite celebrity/pop-star diva of the moment.

Or even a group costume with your friends!

And the third night’s costume? No thought needed whatsoever. VAMPIRE DUH.

Costumes were the hard part, right? Now you’re just ready to let loose and enjoy Halloweekend!

If you walk into the party and someone clearly has the same costume as you, it’s instantly a battle of “who-wore-it-better?”

If they clearly look better than you in said costume, you just brush it off (with a bit of sass).

Your crush compliments your costume. Now you’re definitely feeling good about it.

You’re digging this Halloweekend thing after all.

But as the weekend continues, you’re getting more and more lazy when it comes to going out.

And you’re running out of cool dance moves…

You debate just eating in your room while everyone else is out having fun.

Until everyone (again) convinces you how fun Halloween is. Yes you’re going!

Somehow you make it through all of it alive and well.

Better start resting up for next year, champ!

Happy Halloween!!
