When we think spring we think days spent out on the lakefill, making plans for the summer, and most importantly, spring fashion. Spring fashion means floral dresses and bright colors. After this horrible winter it’s safe to say that almost every Northwestern student cannot WAIT to rock their spring style.

But there’s just one problem: the weather doesn’t go from 30 to 70 overnight. Although April may be springtime by definition, it’s more of a transition period. The awkward “in between” weather can make picking out outfits a little more difficult. 40 degrees can feel like heaven one day and have you reaching for your parka the next.

Having difficulty finding something to wear during this awkward “pre-spring” weather? Check out these HC tips to keep your outfits weather appropriate while looking springy-cute at the same time!

1. Maxi Skirt

Maxi Skirt | Tank Top | Denim Shirt | Necklace | Flats | Belt

Maxi skirts are a perfect hack on early spring time fashion. Patterned or brightly colored maxis give you a perfect pop of spring but provide you with a little more warmth than a mini. Pair them with a light weight sweater or a tank and denim shirt and you’re set for spring. The best part about this look? It’s so easy to transition from night to day. A denim jacket and flats keep your look more casual whereas a crop top and pair of booties can make it party-ready!

2. Lighter Layers

Dress | Cardigan | Jacket | Boots

Winter quarter taught us to layer like pros. Instead of three layers under a parka, opt for some lighter combinations for more of a spring-time feel! Try this dress, cardigan, military jacket combo for a 50 degree day.

3. Long Sleeve Dresses

Dress | Vest | Necklace | Boots

Long sleeve dresses are perfect for those days you want to rock a dress without a jacket to cover it. They look great with riding boots and a vest if you want to be a little bit warmer.

4. Cute Pullovers

Sweatshirt | Jeans | Boots | Bangles

Sweatshirts don’t only include the “x high school x sports team” ones you wear when you’re watching Netflix in your bed. Many pullovers have cute patterns or graphics on them that make them wearable for everyday style. Pair them with jeans and booties on a cooler day or tucked into a skater skirt when the sun comes out! Either way, they’ll provide you with a little bit of warmth and make for a perfect layer piece!
