Rosie on Romance: How to Impress Your Boyfriend's MomBy May 9, 2013 - 10:11pm We’ve all heard those horror stories about the boyfriend’s mother disapproving of the girlfriend and we write them off as myths, movie conflicts or just things that happen to other girls. At least, that’s what I thought. Until it happened to me, and my best friend, and my cousin. The fact is, it is possible for your boyfriend’s mother to dislike you and most of the time it doesn’t even have anything to do with you, just the idea of you. So whether you think you have a reason to prepare or not, you might want to keep some of these tips in mind when you go for that fateful meeting with her. Better safe than sorry! READ MORE |

5 Things I Learned at my Fashion Magazine InternshipBy May 1, 2013 - 9:50pm It’s crazy how much things can change in a year. A year ago, my freshman self was so set on getting an internship at a fashion magazine in New York City. I was so sure that I was destined to one day become a fashion editor for a women’s magazine, and I knew interning in any major fashion publication in New York was going to be my first step in making that dream come true. I reached out to every fashion, beauty, editorial and features assistant of all the notable fashion magazines and booked a flight to New York City over spring break to go on interviews with the handful of assistants who were gracious enough to give me a chance. When I finally got an offer, I was beyond excited for what seemed like the start of a career I only dreamed of having.... |

Forget gazing at the stars, now you can wear them!By April 30, 2013 - 11:19pm Although scientists have yet to pinpoint the origins of the vast universe we live in, this new clothing trend is as easy to spot as the North Star on a clear night! Galaxy or celestial print has been on the rise with the pattern appearing in different forms on leggings, shirts and even shoes! If done right, the pattern can make you look like you are wearing a piece of the sky. But if done wrong, it can look like a paint machine has gone haywire on your clothes. So which clothing stores have the right idea when it comes to apparel from the heavens and which shops could stand a trip back to the drawing board? Take a look and see! Akira: READ MORE |

Megan's Menu: Peek-A-Boo CookiesBy April 30, 2013 - 9:38pm Here are two things I’ve concluded about this spring so far: 1) I have never thought the “April Showers” proverb was so accurate, and 2) I’ve found myself sarcastically saying, “we’re having such a nice winter this spring” far too often for my own good. Rosie on Romance: Wet Weather DatesBy April 9, 2013 - 10:47pm It is a truth universally acknowledged that if there is ever a warm day in Chicago, said day will always be accompanied by bulldozing wind or dreary rain. And in keeping up with the spring tradition, we have been graced with weeks of terrible torrents (I promise I haven’t been doing the rain dance…at least, not recently). But just because it’s a tad wet outside, doesn’t mean you have to let it put a, well, damper on your date night. Instead, use this opportunity to do things indoors you’ve always wanted to do or be a little adventurous. So here are some ideas for the next few gloomy days: READ MORE |

Life is not a RomComBy March 13, 2013 - 3:46pm Romance movies have been around since the start of cinema. From "Casablanca," to "A Walk to Remember," these timeless stories have achieved a level of immortality as they are quoted and referenced time and time again. These movies have gone on to have modest to extreme success, most recently with the romantic comedy “Silver Linings Playbook” receiving a nod for Best Picture and it’s female lead Jennifer Lawrence snagging the award for Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards. To the average viewer, it is easy to see why these movies have the draw that they do. The feel good, nice guy/girl finishes first; optimistic ending draws in a wide variety of people from all walks of life. READ MORE... |

Bogged Down BoyfriendsBy March 13, 2013 - 2:59am Finals are upon us again (and I know this because I spent a lot of quality time with a giant bowl of chips and an ungodly mound of books at 3am last night). You’re breaking out, losing sleep, and feeling extremely irritable under all the stress, but sometimes it’s important to remember that so is your guy. Guys don’t generally verbalize their frustrations when they’re stressed so it’s easy to assume that they’re not secretly tearing their hair out. But it’s important to give them support when they’re feeling overwhelmed the way you would want a nice massage on a bad day. Just make sure you do it the right way. READ MORE |
