Dress Like Your Favorite Pretty Little Liar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

The Pretty Little Liars series has been my guilty pleasure since the show launched last June. Sure, the never-ending plot that keeps piling up unanswered questions ultimately doesn’t end up anywhere and the storyline is anything but realistic especially when these girls are still in “high school.” Nonetheless, there’s something about this show that makes girls like me keep tuning in every Monday night, and we’ve all grown to love these four Pretty Little Liars. Here’s part one of some fashion inspired by the girls on the show, just in case you’re obsessed with their quirky sense of style too.

Aria Montgomery
Among the four girls, Aria is definitely the fashion risk taker. She rarely sticks to the fashion rules- she wears what she wants and flaunts it. Her style is a mix of everything- a little glam, a little bohemian, a little feminine and a little bit rock chic. The key to dressing like Aria is to think outside the box and mix different patterns and textures even if they don’t seem to match. The point is to never be matchy-matchy, and Aria masters this like a pro. Look for unique items like a handbag with a chain strap or feather earrings as big as your hand. This girl knows how to draw attention, and it takes some bold risks to dress like her. Is it possible to be crazy but fabulous? Absolutely.

Spencer Hastings

Spencer is the perfectionist who is a little uptight at times, but you may find that this student leader is one of the most relatable characters in the show, especially if you go to Northwestern. Spencer’s style is modern and classic- she wears structured, mens-inspired clothing while putting her own twist with feminine touches. She never wears over-the-top jewelry or clothing that reveals too much skin. Everything about her style is kept classy, demure and practical. The key to achieving Spencer’s style is to layer your basics and belt your waist to tie everything together. Think the equestrian trend worn by Duchess Catherine. Spencer’s essentials include simple stud earrings, a classic everyday watch, a figure-flattering blazer and some riding boots.
