I discovered Jenn Im through her Youtube account, clothesencounters, many years ago. While videos are her primary content, she has a prominent following across most social media platforms. Her creative eye is undeniable, and her charisma is beyond endearing, but those are not the only reasons why she is my favorite Youtuber to binge-watch.
1. Let’s state the obvious: her fashion sense is on point
Not only does she rock mainstream trends, but she is isn’t afraid to be adventurous with her outfits. Her fashion combinations are inspiring and exciting – it’s obvious that she considers her wardrobe to be an artform.
2. Her aesthetic is clean and refined
I’m first to admit that my Instagram feed is nowhere near impressive. But I do know that Jenn, on all platforms, knows how to rock an aesthetic. Whether it’s the angles in her videos or the poses in her pictures (which she made a tutorial on), everything about her content is pleasing to the eye.
3. She isn’t afraid to admit her mistakes or get political
Earlier this year, in one of her vlogs, Jenn admitted that she didn’t vote in the election. Her reasoning was that she lived in California, and so her inevitable vote for Hillary Clinton wouldn’t have made a significant difference because of how much the state swings left. Yet, she still made a point to explain her regret and how she is now working to be more politically involved in the future. In that same vlog, she attended the Women’s March!
4. Her dog is adorable
I’m not usually a fan of small dogs, but Cheeki is too adorable for words. Of course, she has her own instagram @imcheeki. Feel free to follow if you’re prepared to faint from cuteness.
5. Her love story with her fiance is too charming to be real
Ben is from England. Jenn is from LA. Obviously the distance complicated their relationship from the beginning. But they survived two years of separation, and now they are an inspiration for all couples sharing in the same experience. Plus, their names rhyme, so how could it not be fate? Watch her engagement video if you’re in the mood an insane amount of romantic feels.
6. Her channel began with thrifting, and she hasn’t left it behind
What makes Jenn’s content unique is that she isn’t afraid to bargain shop. Now that she has gained a significant following and a steady income, it’s no surprise that most of her clothing now comes from legitimate retailers. But that hasn’t stopped her from sticking to her roots and doing the occasional thrift haul – which are always my favorite.
7. She loves Hot Cheetos
Hot Cheetos are my guilty pleasure. You can find me huddled up in bed, late at night with bright red fingers and an empty orange bag next to me too often for me to admit. But you know what comforts me? Jenn shares the same addiction. She even made a video using Hot Cheetos (and other variations) to make quesadillas. Warning: don’t watch if you’re hungry!
