When I was a freshman in college, I used to go out every weekend multiple nights in a row to frat parties or friends’ house parties. This was expensive, tiring, and degrading at times. I would focus on what I was going to wear, what friends I wanted to go out with, how to split the Uber fare, and other necessities for a successful night.

Within the past year, I’ve transferred schools and have become a sophomore at Northeastern, a more prestigious university. Now, I spend triple the amount of time studying. Last semester was a difficult transition, and I was faced with the reality that no matter how hard I may study, it’s possible to only get a C. This semester, a Friday night meant taking a nap after class, watching some Netflix, and hitting friends up around 8pm because that’s when you have the energy to do something.

I think it might have to do with growing up and realizing that partying isn’t always a priority and that it isn’t the only way to socialize in college. I still love a good party, but I’ve realized I shouldn’t spend my entire Friday hitting up frat boys who only let in the hottest of the hottest females. The next day I would end up sleeping until mid-morning, if not later, recovering from last night’s events and hearing all the drama that occurred.

I spent my past Friday night baking for multiple friends’ birthdays, delivering treats, and just stopping by to say hello. Instead of feeling like I was missing out from all the exciting things in Boston, I felt wholesome and surrounded by people who actually know my name and want to have conversations with me. A Friday night could mean anything, it just depends on where you are in life.
