What is #Truthbeauty?

#Truthbeauty is a project that started last year to help people find “the [safest], highest-performing and most affordable products” available. A blog called Beauty Lies Truth was launched to spark conversation about products and highlight certain brands that were hitting all the right notes. They set up a kickstarter that finished this past April in order to start selling products. Bags could be purchased at discounted prices with hand-selected products that had the ladies’ approval. Now, in September, their website fosters a growing community of curious and concerned individuals. It gives them a place to turn to read reviews, get advice for research, ask beauty-related questions, and learn about what other public figures are up to to change the beauty industry.

Who started the website?

Alexis Krauss and Jessica Assaf decided to start a movement for change in combination with promotion of the best products on the market.

“The Beauty Industry Needs a Makeover”

This is the tagline for Beauty Lies Truth. Deciphering what’s “good” and what’s “bad” for the skin can be a long, strenuous, and frustrating journey (that may get you nowhere). There seems to be a major lack of information regarding skincare ingredients, and many people are starting to question why. After all, skin is the human’s largest organ, and what’s put on it on the outside can directly affect what goes on on the inside.

How can you say what’s good or bad? Right or wrong?

Everyone has unique skin that couples its own set of problems and concerns. This movement isn’t trying to persuade you to use specific products. They are instead taking the time to debunk what ingredient lists are really saying. Products may claim to produce certain results and then contain ingredients that completely counteract that effect. Others might contain substances, hiding as big words on an ingredients label, that aren’t healthy for your body. Beauty Lies Truth creators are here to spark change in what’s allowed in beauty products and help people find more natural, greatly beneficial products in the process.

This sounds like a really complicated puzzle.

Truthfully, it is, with no thanks to large skincare companies. Beauty standards need to change, but it’s going to be a long road. Luckily, these ladies are here to help.

What kind of information is available on the website?

Check it out for yourself when you have free time…I know that time is precious in college but your health is worth it! In the meantime, here are the highlights:

  • An adorable “About Us” page explains the website’s beginning.

  • An education segment includes European versus FDA standards (news flash, our standards are much lower).

  • A clean list of healthy, cost-effective products is accompanied with a dirty list – a collection of nasty ingredients to look out for (and avoid).

  • Step-by-step advice is suggested to help improve your routine.

  • A question forum makes it easy to send questions directly.

  • Lots of reviews of products can be read and submitted.

  • #Truthbeauty Besties highlights women and their beauty companies that are leading the way to change.

  • Blog articles galore tell others’ stories and opinions and help build a community for this movement.

Major Takeaway?

At the very least, the one thing I would say to take away from this article is to be more aware of what you’re using on your body. You might not know how it could be affecting you. And if you’re a beauty product addict like me, try something new! What could be the harm with all the research that was put into choosing those recommendations?
