Kylie Jenner’s New ‘Kylighters’!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Recently, I decided to purchase Kylie Cosmetics new launch, her range of highlighters, also known as ‘Kylighters’.

Following this famous celebrity on Snapchat, I am very aware of the hype that revolves around her cosmetics line and have also tried a few of her lip products from the range.

I’m the kind of person that if I love something, I will buy the same product a hundred times!

The first thing you should know about me is I LOVEEEE highlighter. I think for me it goes mascara, highlighter, and then lip products.

Before I was introduced to ‘Kylighters’, I had the holy grail of highlighters. Everyone I knew complimented the glow it gave my cheekbones and I loved the attention! If it wasn’t enough that my friends, family, and strangers asked me about it, but also my high school math teacher came up to me and asked me ‘how are you making your cheekbones glow like that?? What are you using?’ With a sly smile on my face, I introduced her to the product I will forever praise…

If you’re a girl with tan or olive skin, this gorgeous color makes you illuminate. I have never seen a product so pigmented. I mean it says it in the name!

I have always loved this product, so to think of even trying something new made me shudder.

The first thing to know that I really liked about Kylie’s line of ‘Kylighters’ is the range of colors she provided for women with all different types of skin tones. The shades are:

Banana Split, Cotton Candy Cream, Chocolate Cherry, French Vanilla, Salted Caramel, and Strawberry Shortcake.

The product I decided to buy was Kylie’s Salted Caramel Kylighter, because according to her snapchats, this product is perfect for medium (olive or tan) skin tones.

For fairer skin tones, she suggests: French Vanilla/ Cotton Candy Cream/ Banana Split

For medium skin tones, she suggests: Salted Caramel/ Strawberry Shortcake

For darker skin tones, she suggests: Chocolate Cherry/ Strawberry Shortcake

To condense my opinion on the product overall, below is a list of first impressions and opinions I had on the product:

  • “Ooooh wow this packaging is lit!”

  • “Oh my god, it comes with a mirror. That’s amazing!”

  • “Oooh, it has that melting liquid effect design!”

  • “SHIMMER SHIMMER SHIMMER”

  • *swatches one swipe on wrist* “not as pigmented as I thought but wow the color!”

  • *repeats swatch a couple of times and then swipes on wrist* “eh, the Mac pigment pot does it in one swipe…”

While I love the product and the glow that it gives my face, the product is quite dense so it does require sweeping your brush or finger on the product a couple of times to get a good pigment onto your skin.

The Kylighter is exactly how Kylie explains it, an almost caramel type color, whereas the MAC product has more pink undertones under flash lighting.

This picture is both the products using only one swipe and swatching it on my wrist.

Overall:

Packaging: 5/5

Quality: 3.5/5

Price: 4/5

Worth the hype: 4/5
