Kappa Kappa Gamma in the Spotlight: Sneha Pandya

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

1. Name: Sneha Pandya

2. Year in school: 4th year, Senior

3. Major: English major

4. Hometown: Sarasota, FL

5. When did you join Kappa Kappa Gamma?

I joined Kappa Kappa Gamma my freshman year, Fall of 2013.

6. Why did you join Kappa Kappa Gamma?

I joined Kappa because I was looking for something to kick start my college experience, and my freshman year roommate decided to also go through recruitment. It wound up being a great fit!

7. Tell us what it was like being Panhellenic President! What did it mean to you?

I served as Panhellenic President last year, and that was just a whirlwind of a year! I really enjoyed working with all of the different chapters, learning about their similarities and differences, and representing our community to the larger campus community. It was really eye opening to see how we worked together in harmony for our various goals, and definitely humbling to serve as its president. It meant so much to me to head the largest women’s advocacy group at Northeastern and the oldest of its kind in the nation. It’s been one of the most definitive moments of my life.

8. What else are you involved in on campus?

I’m also part of the South Asian organization on campus, UTSAV, where I also get involved with the Asian American Center. I’m a columnist for the Northeastern University Political Review, writing about identity politics. I’m also a University Scholar in the Civic Engagement Program, which has brought me a great understanding of Boston’s communities and service as a college student.

9. Have you been on any co-ops? If so, where?

I was on co-op last fall at Fidelity Investments in their Global Seminars team, helping bring thought leaders to the firm.

10. What’s your favorite class you’ve taken at Northeastern?

My favorite class at NU was “Ethnography of India” with Professor Liza Weinstein. I took it in the Fall of my junior year and it inspired me to start my anthropology research and apply for graduate degrees in social anthropology.

11. What positions, if any, have you held within your chapter?

I served as Education Chair of my chapter in 2015, educating the chapter on relevant issues and programming for seniors and study abroad/co-op women.

12. What advice would you give to younger girls who are considering coming to Northeastern and joining Greek life?

Advice I would give to young women coming to NU who are interested in sororities is to find the kind of experience they’re looking for and just chase it! We have sororities in 3 different councils (Panhellenic, MGC, and NPHC) and each provide a very different kind of experience. So with some research and some bravery, you could find yourself part of organizations that will change and define your college career, challenge you to do your best in all that you do, and really go above and beyond as a student and sister.
