How to Survive the Craziness of the Boston Common Costume Dash

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Since it’s now October, your Facebook timeline is probably transforming into a myriad of haunted houses, pumpkin picking events, and Halloween bar crawls. The same as every year. If you want to do something you have never done before, consider the first annual Boston Common Costume Dash! It is a 5K on Halloween morning at 9 AM through Copley Square and the Boston Common, which will have perfect fall foliage at that time.

Now, besides the challenge of running a 5K, you need to put on your most creative Halloween outfit to get into the spirit of the day (and potentially win prizes!) and then survive the insanely fun after party put on by Harpoon brewery. The 5K also supports the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay so it is a very good cause. Here are our tips for being on the top of your costume, athletic, and drinking game:

  1. Strategically plan your outfit

This is NOT the time for a bulky costume. Adding extra weight will slow you down and tire you out! Instead, try being a superhero or a character in a movie. The costume won’t get in your way as much as you run. Also, make sure your costume is comfortable and covers you up! No one wants to reenact Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” incident at the VMA’s during a 5K. It’s a race not a frat house.

     2. Take a friend

Races and parties are always more fun with a friend! You can plan your costumes together and cheer each other on as you run.

     3. Drink responsibly

Don’t ruin your Halloween festivities by overdoing it. Have fun but be wary of your limits!

Interested? Register here until October 28!
