Campus Celebrity: Amy Schumer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

This year’s Homecoming speaker was no other than Amy Schumer, the hilarious Comedy Central comedian that starred (and wrote!) in Trainwreck this summer. The best about Amy is that she uses her humor not only to entertain, but fight feminism and various other issues. This focus definitely shone throughout her performance on Friday. Amy essentially broke myNEU when the whole student body rushed to log on to get tickets the minute they went on sale, causing headaches for students and CUP alike. I personally waited over an hour in that waiting room, getting logged back out three times, to get my ticket. After Amy’s performance however, I will confirm that it was well worth it.

Unlike some other celebrity guests that have appeared at NU for shows and events (*cough*, Snoop LION *cough*), Amy took the stage on time and actually stayed longer than she was asked to. To me, this shows that despite her recent explosion into super fame, she still manages to be a good person and be relatable. I also enjoyed that a lot of her jokes were not ones that I had heard before and even the ones that were, like the one about Khloe Kardashian, still packed a punch. Some were even tailored to college students. Amy also shared some of her roommate experiences, like her roommate who stole her clothes and wore them in front of her but denied stealing them in the first place (some of us feel your pain, Amy!)

However, my favorite moments of the show were the jabs at Women’s Health Magazine that honestly were just too true and when Amy asked a member of the audience who was yelling to her “Do you even go here?!” and informed him that he “looks like an Uber driver.” I’m not one of those people that tends to laugh out loud when watching things, even when I think they are funny, but Amy had me, and everyone else, doubled over.
