The 89th Academy Awards Ceremony took place last Sunday February 26th and there were some moments that were very remarkable. Below are some of the moments that I enjoyed watching during the Oscars.
- The Blue Ribbons
During the red carpet, I could notice a lot of celebrities wearing a blue ribbon to show their support towards the American Civil Rights Union.
- Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes
In his opening monologue, he brought up President Trump’s angry tweets about Meryl Streep after her Golden Globe speech. After listing her “overrated” performances he even asked her if she was wearing an Ivanka dress.
- Viola Davis’ first Oscar
This was by far my favorite moment during the 2017 Oscars. Viola Davis is an amazing actor who deserves this and many more awards. Her performances are incredible and her speeches are always beautiful.
- Brie Larson’s reaction to Casey Affleck’s Oscar
As an advocate for sexual survivors, Brie Larson presented the Oscar for best actor and Casey Affleck, who had sexual harassment allegations in 2010, won. The sad and disappointed expression noticed on Brie Larson’s face was heartbreaking.
- Gael Garcia Bernal
He spoke about the wall that President Trump plans to build, and how many of the artists are migrant workers and he is against any kind of wall that separates us.
- Lin Manuel Miranda’s and Dev Patel’s dates
When these two showed on the red carpet, guess who their dates were? Their mothers! How incredibly cute was this?
- Basically, all the musical performances
We saw Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Sting, and Lin-Manuel Miranda along with Auli’I Cravalho perform the Oscar nominated songs; they were all breathtaking.
- Best Motion Picture Oscar Mistake
Okay, this was an awkward moment even for me watching it from home. You could see the faces of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling realizing there was a mistake on the winner announcement. The audience at the ceremony had no idea what had happened and everyone had shocked faces.
The 2017 Oscars will go down in history thanks to so many of these moments, but especially by the Best Motion Picture mistake. Nevertheless, congratulations to all of the winners!
