Must Binge Televison Shows for Every Girl Boss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

The holiday season is upon us and that means that we all have approximately a month of no school. This is for any of you Girl Bosses who need some quality bingeing material to invest yourselves in for a few days.

  • Available on Netflix

Crazy Ex Girlfriend

Don’t let the tittle of this show fool you, it is anything but crazy. It is one of the smartest and most underrated shows in TV right now. This show is hilarious, creative and wonderfully musical. Follow Rebecca Bunch as she struggles with love, her career and her own musically inclined brain. This is perfect for any Girl Boss with a song in her heart.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Females are strong as hell and this show proves it. Kimmy Schmidt is a girl who has just escaped an underground bunker where she was trapped for ten years of her life. Despite this, she

remains immensely optimistic and pure in the bustling and sometimes cruel city of New York. This is perfect for any Girl Boss who needs a good laugh and some optimism.

Jessica Jones

This Marel Studios produced television show never has a dull moment. Watch Jessica Jones fight the demons of her past and save some people along the way. Jessica Jones is filled with fantastic performances and a great message about coming to terms with the past. This show does deal with some difficult and controversial subject matter, which is all the more reason to watch it, but younger viewers: be warned.

Jane the Virgin

This show has already garnered a lot of acclaim within its first few seasons and rightfully so. This show is witty and dramatic in all the right ways. After Jane becomes pregnant after a huge mishap with her gynecologist, her life becomes a real-life telenovela, and all of us get to watch. All the women on this show are Girl Bosses in their own right and the twists will keep you glued to your screen until the very end.

  • Available on Amazon Prime

One Mississippi

This Amazon Original is inspired by the real-life events of comedian Tig Notaro. This show is real, sad and hilarious. Watch Tig return to her hometown and deal with the loss of her mother as she uncovers truths about both her family and herself.

Good Girls Revolt

This is one of the best shows to come out in recent years that no one has ever heard of. This story is set in the year 1969 and is about young female researchers who work at a newspaper, who demand that they be treated more fairly. While this show will not be moving passed its first season, it is still worth the watch and will inspire any woman or girl to take a stand.

Catastrophe

Another Amazon Original, this show is about two people getting to know each other after a one-night stand between them leads to pregnancy. With only six episodes that never exceed more than 24 minutes, this is a quick binge that will have you falling in love with these two characters and laughing hysterically while doing so.

  • Available on Hulu

Agent Carter

Another Marvel Studios produced television show, but this time about Agent Peggy Carter. This super spy thriller was not watched by nearly enough people and is a lesser known Marvel property. Agent Carter is smart, sophisticated and just an all-around good time. Do yourself a favor and watch this incredible show and maybe get a little angry about how it was canceled way too soon.

Younger

This show is about a woman in her forties trying to make it as a woman in her twenties. This show is the closest thing that television currently has to Sex in the City, and it is definitely worth your time. This show cleverly balances drama with comedy and handles an insane premise with grace and fantastic writing. Younger is a great story about ambition and second chances that can make any girl feel capable of doing just about anything.

The Handmaid’s Tale

There is a reason that this show won 8 Emmy awards and that is because it is one of the best shows of this year. Based on the famous Margaret Atwood novel, this show revolves around a woman trying to survive a totalitarian society in which women have been stripped of their rights. This show is thoughtful, beautiful and sometimes fear inducing. The subject matter is very dark but so intriguing and well realized that you cannot stop watching until the very end.
