Kylie’s Private Pregnancy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCAT chapter.

While most were raging over who’d win the Super Bowl, others were in frenzy over the reveal of Kylie Jenner’s “secret” pregnancy.

The internet was convinced Kylie was pregnant once she began only posting throwback pictures of herself, being photographed in nothing but baggy clothes, to eventually disappearing on all social media. Yet, there wasn’t any legit confirmation if it was true or not.

On February 1st, Kylie and boyfriend Travis Scott became parents to a baby girl named, Stormi Webster. On February 4th, she revealed her pregnancy on Instagram with a short video dedicated to her daughter titled, For Our Daughter.

Although I suspected she may be pregnant, I couldn’t believe it was actually true. Kylie Jenner?! A mom?!

Let’s be honest. Being pregnant seems like a trend nowadays. And thanks to social media, spreading news about our personal lives has become so easy that it’s almost second nature. Most famous (and non-famous) women are anything but private by documenting their monthly (sometime weekly) pregnancy journey for the whole world to see. There’s the super creative pregnancy announcement, the over the top gender reveal party, the half-naked pregnancy photo shoot (because it’s artsy, right?!), and finally a picture of the baby as soon as it leaves the womb.

If pregnancy announcements bring a sort of currency for a celebrity, you can bet that blindsiding the public with a baby takes that up to a new level. As a Kardashian/Jenner, by default, it’s always about the cameras. Unlike sisters Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe, Kylie chose to reveal her pregnancy after giving birth.

The caption under Kylie’s Instagram post said, “I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions… my pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world”. She told fans, “I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how.”

As a famous young mommy-to-be, a positive and stress-free pregnancy seems farfetched. I must say, I’m impressed how Kylie, her family, and friends kept the world speculating for 9 months.

In the dedication video, best friend Jordyn Woods says to the baby, “When you’re just 20 years old, you’re just figuring out your life. You don’t know what you want. You’re [an] indecisive teenager, and you’re just becoming an adult,” Woods said. “And there was one thing that your mom knew for sure and that was you.”

I wish Kylie nothing but the best in her endeavors in motherhood!
