Over time, we find ourselves scrolling through social media looking at all the posts of the people that surround us with their posts about their boyfriends and girlfriends. The blow hits you, I am still single. We say that we’re going to try to get out there, but there are things that hold us back. We have our triggers that were brought upon us through past relationships, or just never having a relationship before. We all focus on the “What could have been” rather than looking at the present and saying “I’m ready to move on.”

Don’t look back on the times that hurt you. All those times are in the past for a reason. Life is going to throw things at us every day, it is just about being able to be strong enough to handle them. If we weren’t strong enough for these problems, we wouldn’t be standing there facing these problems. You are stronger than you think, surround yourself with people that remind you of that every day. You don’t need to be in a relationship to be reminded of that. Boost yourself up before entering a new relationship because you need to learn how to create your own self happiness and not rely on anyone else to create your happiness for you. Take time to rediscover yourself. Odds are, since you’ve been single, you’ve been focused on what your ex is doing or what you could have done better. Get yourself away from that mindset, and try something new. Listen to different music, watch that movie you haven’t had the time to watch, or just hit the books. You may even begin to start feeling like a new person. Explore yourself because you need to know who you are before you can take on another relationship.

Dating websites and apps are not that answer to getting yourself back out there. Tinder is not going to somehow magically give you the answers you need to get back on the dating track. Most people use these apps and websites with no intentions of dating the people they match with. There are a few people that do, but what are the odds that it will work out? The messages about your beauty are not the answer you are looking for. These things are only met for temporary flings, if you feel like you want a temporary fling then go for it, but if you find yourself wanting more, do not put yourself on any of these things. The answer you are looking for is within you, keep digging to find it before downloading Tinder again. It may surprise you once you find it.

Let go of everything. When we let go, we allow ourselves to move on. We don’t just give up on everything, we allow things to happen naturally. All the self-searching pays off and we know who we exactly are. You’ll be able to portray the person you want to be, and someone will come along to compliment all the amazing things you have going for you. You are your own person, and once you see that, it makes all the difference. It doesn’t matter if your ex moved on with someone else, what matters is that you’re not rushing into anything new and that you are happy in your own skin. Enjoy life because one day you may look back and wish you had gone out that one night with your friends. Once you start living your life, stop the search for the perfect person, and let go of everything, you might accidentally find someone that will surprise you.
