Greek life; you read countless articles on it. When I came to Murray State, I knew I would never be a “sorority girl.” I rushed so I could move in early and enjoy some extra time before the start of the semester, but the second I stepped into sorority recruitment, my life was changed forever. Everything I thought I knew about Greek life was turned upside down. Murray State’s Greek system is by far the best that I have ever witnessed. Here are the top four reasons why Murray State Greek life tops the rest!

The Recruitment Process

Murray State holds sorority recruitment in both the fall and spring semesters. While the spring semester is pretty laid back; fall recruitment is more formal. Many universities have the reputation that their recruitment process is intimidating. At Murray State, recruitment encourages you to be true to yourself while visiting different chapters. Women from all of the Greek organizations come together to help potential new members find their home.

The Community

The stereotype of “I can only be friends with girls in my sorority” is completely incorrect at Murray State. Every sorority is close not only within themselves, but with one another. Each sorority is incredibly involved with the others chapter. Sorority women come together as panhellenic women to encourage and uplift each other. Murray State’s campus also has a small Greek community with only seven chapters on campus. This makes the chapters more tight knit and easy to meet girls from every chapter.

The Philanthropy

Every sorority chapter has an organization they are involved with nationally, whether it be Special Olympics or Ronald McDonald House charities. On top of the nationally recognized philanthropies many of the Greek chapters at Murray State are involved with a local organization as well. The Greek life on campus goes above and beyond the call of duty to help out the community they love so much.

The Diversity

Greek life at Murray State is extremely diverse. Women of all shapes, sizes, and personality types are all welcome in Greek life. The Greek women of Murray want everyone to feel at home and included. Running home to a group of women so different from yourself helps you to grow into a women you never thought you could be.

The Sisterhood

The sisterhood on Murray’s campus is amazing. Greek life is all about creating relationships that will last forever. I would go more in dept, but the sisterhood you find in the sororities at Murray is something that will put you at a loss for words. You make the greatest memories, you get an amazing support system, laugh the hardest, gain the best of friends, and grow more than you ever thought you could.
