I am a senior at Mount Holyoke College majoring in history. I’ve taken countless classes in the department, in subjects ranging from modern American to African development to U.S.-Latin American relations. I decided to major in history after taking various classes in the department, finding that I enjoyed the subject material much more than anything else I had taken. Recently, I have taken various classes with Professor Holly Hanson in African development and it has quickly turned into my favorite concentration in the department! Her classes have opened my eyes to a subject that to my surprise, I find extremely exciting and interesting. I always look forward to going to class and participating in the discussion where everyone can share what we found interesting in the reading. In history classes, I have learned to question information I read about and research thoroughly for large papers, a skill which will be invaluable to me in graduate school.
I decided to minor in romance languages because I have a passion for learning new languages and their different cultures. My family is Colombian, so I grew up speaking Spanish at home and have always had an interest in expanding my linguistic abilities. I chose French and Spanish as the languages my minor is centered on. I have taken French for 8 years and am taking Spanish to perfect my academic fluency.
