Hometown: Born in Lima, Peru. Raised in Curitiba, Brazil

What made you decide to come to Mount Holyoke?

Sophomore year in high school I decided International Relations was the major I was going to pursue. My high school in Brazil did a very good job in pairing me up with schools that had a strong IR program. With that being said the one at Mount Holyoke really stuck out and since then have been absolutely loving my experience here.

What organizations and extracurricular activities do you participate in?

I am a member of the Model United Nations and am the Vice Captain of the Love Your Melon Crew at Mount Holyoke.

What is Love Your Melon?

Love Your Melon is an organization mostly run by college students to help fight and end pediatric cancer. The organization started out in pursuit to put a beanie on every child battling cancer in America and has since grown beyond that. A majority of large college campuses throughout the US have a Love Your Melon “Crew” and my friend and I were lucky enough to be selected to begin a Crew for Mount Holyoke. (Learn more about Campus Crews at the Love Your Melong website.)

What are your duties in Love Your Melon? As a Vice Captain I am in charge of  the Crew’s progression through the Credit Level System. Alongside that I have a few responsibilities which include setting bi-weekly sales goals for the Crew, assisting the Crew Captain in planning and carrying out Crew Donation and promotional events, developing and implementing promotional strategies with the PR and tracking and informing Crew members about Crew Credit Level progress and upcoming promotional events.

How can other Mount Holyoke students get involved with Love Your Melon?

As of now our goal is to get as many credits as possible in order to start receiving material to promote the cause visually. Students can simply contact me (cacho22l@mtholyoke.edu) or Erin Halbrecht (halbr22e@mtholyoke.edu) and we would be more than happy to add you to our crew. Getting involved is really simple and I encourage all to shoot me a message.

What are you most looking forward to this semester?

I am looking forward to the progress I hope to make by the end of the semester, the things I hope to achieve and where I want to be.

What are your goals for this semester?

To attend at least one Model United Nations conference.

What are your favorite books, songs, or movies right now?

I am currently reading Forward by Abby Wambach and I’m loving every page of it, it has really got me thinking on how to achieve greatness and sustain it in addition to overcoming problems and living a happier, braver life. As for movies, I can watch The Notebook and A Walk to Remember a thousand times and still cry everytime at the same scenes.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

Martin Luther King Jr., because he inspires me and I think he should inspire everyone. I would like him to see how much of a difference he made and what work still needs to be done.
