5 Reasons Why The Jungle Book Will Rock Your World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

1. The visual effects were absolutely stunning

Even if you have absolutely no interest in what’s taking place on screen (which should not be the case) the beautiful nature scenes and the high level of careful detail that evidently went into every single shot is enough to keep you entertained at the very least. The live action representation of animated animals was entirely believable, each animal moved like that animal should; Baloo with his stumbling, heavy-set bear jaunt (yes “bear jaunt” can be a thing) and the lithe, graceful, fluid lope of Bagheera are just a couple examples.

2. This movie will make you feel the feels

I am someone who thoroughly enjoys feeling the feels in movies and TV, to me it’s a sign that the characters are believable and relatable enough to connect with me on an emotional level. This movie, centered around a multitude of emotionally complex and multifaceted animals and one intelligent, lovable human boy features a myriad of relatable situations (believe it or not) that will leave you in tears if you’re like me, or contemplating the inner workings of the human experience.

3. The voices are on POINT.

The cast features talented actors including Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong’o, Christopher Walken, and the one and only Scarlett Johansson as the dangerously alluring snake. You can hear the passion and energy that was poured into these voices and each one fits remarkably well with their respective animals. Ben Kingsley is the paternal and powerful panther Bagheera, while Lupita Nyong’o perfectly embodies the protective and beautiful Raksha, Mowgli’s wolf mother.

4. The movie addresses legitimate human issues in a beautiful and powerful way

The danger of discrimination, the loneliness that accompanies an uncertain identity, the sadness and confusion that follows you when you leave home for the first time, and the enduring love of family are just a few issues that are represented in this film. It may be a children’s film but I guarantee it will make you seriously contemplate life no matter what age you are.

5. It’s a stressful time for us college students and this movie was a welcome and perfect break

It’s an hour and a half that will transport you to another world that is most likely far removed from your own (unless you live in a jungle) yet will also be one that you relate to. Go see it. Just do it. It’s one of the bare necessities of life.
