New Holiday Traditions to Try This Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

The holidays are an excellent time to return home and partake in your favorite family traditions. This year, start a new tradition at your family gathering. Try some of our ideas to create one that will last through the ages.

Holiday karaoke

Break out your cheesiest dance moves and your best Mariah Carey impression. Challenge guests at your next family gathering to a friendly singing competition. The winner gets an extra helping of dessert.

Ugly sweaters, pajamas or formal attire

Change the dress code for this year’s party. Do you typically dress up? Try something more casual like ugly sweaters or pajamas. If you normally dress comfortably, go all out by wearing a dress or fun heels.

Fresh eats

Add something different to the holiday menu. Surprise family and friends with a new dessert, appetizer or side dish. Consider making a traditional holiday dish from a culture different than your own.

Board games, cards or bingo

After dinner, gather everyone for a fun bonding experience. Choose a game that everyone can play such as Cards Against Humanity or Uno. There are sure to be a few laughs and it will keep everyone entertained until it’s time to open presents.
