Maleigha Jackson ’18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Name: Maleigha Jackson

Major: Social Work

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Carleton, Mich.

What made you choose your major of study? There isn’t a field that gives you more of an opportunity to help people in various areas like social work does.

What do you hope to do, post-graduation? Attend law school!

What made you choose MSU? While on a tour of their law school, I had a comforting feeling that I belonged on this campus.

Do you have a favorite spot on campus? I don’t have a favorite spot necessarily, but I really enjoy finding new spots on campus. This campus has so many new sights to offer.

Are you involved in any extracurricular activities on campus? What are they? I really enjoy being a part of Make-A-Wish.

If you could choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be and why? Enthusiastic, because I have a positive and willing approach to almost every aspect of life.

If you knew then, what you know now, what would you have done differently in completing your freshman year? I wouldn’t have worried so much!

How would you describe your personal style? I would say that I am a mix of many styles, but I have been referred to as a “modern bohemian hippy” before.

If life were a salad, which ingredient would you be and why? I would have to say that I am the tomato in a salad. I add a pop of color.

Night owl or an early bird? Explain? Any time of the day person! I used to think I was a night person since I hardly ever sleep, but when I started working/attending early events I was still that person dancing and singing and having others wanting to kill me for having way too much energy!

What is one of your biggest passions and why? People. I absolutely love people. I am very passionate about getting to know people for who they really are, as well as being there for people in any way possible.

What is an experience, positive or negative, that has changed you, challenged you or helped you grow as a person? I have had six friends pass away throughout my teenage years, three within the same summer. That is definitely an experience that has changed me as a person. I value people and experiences in a whole new light.

Who is your celebrity crush? I am a huge country music fan, so basically any male country singer has my heart.

Words to live by? Today is the day.
