How To Look Chic This Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Flowers, cards, and candy…oh my! You either love or hate Valentine’s Day. If you’re single, the mere sight of a couple holding hands may make you want to vomit, and if you’re “boo’d up,” you can’t wait to spend some quality time with your significant other this weekend. No matter what your relationship status may be, I’m here to show you that you can still look fabulous! Whether you’re going to dinner with #bae, hanging out with your girls, or having a Netflix date by yourself, there’s an outfit for every activity.

Fancy Dinner: Did your honey tell you to wear something “nice”? Nine times out of ten, you’re probably going to dinner. A simple shift dress – with sleeves or without – would look adorable with pumps and statement jewelry.

Chicwish Hot Pink Flare Hem Dress, $53; Miss KG Abbie Asymmetric Toe Pointed Stiletto Court Shoes, $100; Pastel Crystal Flower Statement Necklace, $22; Jules Smith Dagger Earrings, $35; ALDO Forero Handbag, $30

“It’s a Surprise!”: Literally three of my least favorite words. I hate not knowing what to expect! If you’re in for a surprise this weekend, good luck. Kidding! It’s always a plus to look cute, but in this case, it would help to add some comfort into your ‘fit as well. A loose sweater with high-waist jeans and ankle booties would be the perfect choice for whatever it is that you’re going to be doing (bowling, movies, sky-diving?! Ahhh!).

Blackfive Split Hem V-neck Md-long Loose Jumper, $30; Topshop MOTO Ice Ripped Mom Jeans, $70; American Eagle Wide Brim Fedora, $30; Brooks Brothers Leather Crossbody Bag, $79; Ash Famous Suede Cutout Boot, $90

GALentine’s Day: Did you and your best gal pals make a vow to spend the day together? Have fun getting all dolled up with your girls and make all the not-so-single guys realize what they’re missing out on. Okay, totally joking. Don’t be a home-wrecker.

H&M Short Coat, $46; EZNA COSTA Ribbed Jersey Mini Dress, $58; Pearl Hilton Box Clutch, $60; Mango Metallic Ring Set, $15; Nine West Genevieve Leather or Suede Booties, $56

Just Another Day: If you and your lovebug have been dating for a while, it’s probably safe to assume that Valentine’s Day isn’t that big of a deal for you two anymore. If you’re not steam-pressed about what to wear, causal is always your best bet!

Topshop Ribbed Cropped Vest, $30; Black High Waist Pleated Skirt, $17; Bowler Hat, $5; Daisy-Mae Choker Necklace, $3; Zara Ankle-Strap Flats, $60

All the Single Ladies: No valentine, no problem! Being single on Valentine’s Day is not the end of the world. Order yourself some pizza, find a new show to binge-watch on Netflix, and get cozy in your Snuggie. Look at the bright side, at least you didn’t have to spend a ton of money on unnecessary gifts for someone else!

NYLON ‘I Like Food’ Tee, $24; Rut & Circle Price Sanna Cardigan, $31; Topshop Neppy Joggers, $48; Hi-Top Converse, $50

Now that you’ve got some ideas, go out and have some fun! Happy Valentine’s Day!
