Graduation Style Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Graduation is right around the corner and it’s time to finalize your look. We’ve got dress, shoe and make-up ideas to get you on the road to graduation glam!

The Dress

Opt for a knee or midi length dress. As much as we love maxi dresses, you don’t want it showing underneath your gown. Just because graduation is a formal event doesn’t mean your dress has to be boring. Make it your own style! If you love prints, go for a nice floral or abstract. If you like simple, pick a neutral color with embroidery or lace detail.

The Shoes

Go for simple when picking out your shoes. A medium to short heel is best for walking across the stage. Tall wedges or heels can be uncomfortable and also risky. Avoid bright colors–you don’t want your shoes to be too distracting! Neutral colors go well with any dress and can still look cute without drawing too much attention.

The Makeup:

The most important thing to remember is to look like yourself. You want to look back at pictures and recognize your college-self. In other words, don’t cake on the eye shadow and lipstick. Stick to subtle tones that just highlight your face. Browns or earthy tones are the perfect colors to bring out your eyes. A muted pink lipstick is just enough glam for graduation!
