Allanah Hammond ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Name: Allanah HammondYear: SeniorMajor: Microbiology and Genomics and Molecular GeneticsHometown: Bay City, MIWhere can we usually find you outside of class? Currently, I work in a research lab, so when I’m not in class, you can usually find me at work. Outside of that, I love spending my time outdoors when it’s nice out. I love camping and boating and just exploring.Dream job: My dream job would be to travel and rate my experiences such as what is the best destination vacation, what is the best resort to stay at, or what places have the best food/entertainment. I love to travel. Something more realistic to my major would be to work with elephants or exotic animals.Relationship Status: Happily taken! How did the two of you meet? I was trying to sleep and my neighbor was throwing a really loud party, so I went over to ask them to turn down the music, and the second I walked in the door, my neighbor said his best friend was there from out of town and he knew we would be perfect together. We clicked from that instant, and have been together ever since.Describe your first kiss: If the one in the third grade counts, it was at my birthday party at Chuck-E-Cheese in the sky tunnels. If that doesn’t count, it was my 14th birthday party, and I was throwing a “party” at my house. My friends and I were playing spin the bottle and mine landed on a boy from my class. Something about birthday parties? What do you look for in a partner? It would be hard to narrow it down. I like that my partner knows himself. He is confident, outgoing, and an overall great person to be around. I like a partner who can help you grow and teach you things about life and even about yourself that you didn’t know. I like someone who is adventurous and can accompany me on all of the things that I enjoy in life. The two most important qualities a partner can possess are honesty and trust. If you are honest with yourself and your partner in a relationship, and you can trust each other, you have a great foundation to build the rest of the relationship.Biggest turnoff in a guy: I absolutely do not like the “player” type. If I know a man gets around, hooks up with multiple girls, or cheats in a relationship, that is an automatic turnoff. I really love an honest, good man. Best pickup line: Can I buy you a drink? No one turns that down! Ideal Date: I just love to be surprised. Any kind of date that I didn’t plan or know about is ideal to me. I would love any of the dates that you would see in The Bachelor/The Bachelorette. I would love to explore a new city or spend an entire day on a yacht. Anything that involved adventure, fun, and good company.Celeb Crush: Luke BryanGuilty Pleasure: I can never turn down dark chocolate or boneless buffalo wings. Most embarrassing moment: In middle school, my class went outside for something, and we were all running around the field. I wanted to show off and do a back flip. I guess my jeans were a little too tight, because they split right down the middle. What is your favorite MSU memory? Outside of antagonizing hours spent in class, every memory has been amazing. From meeting new friends freshman year and meeting my boyfriend sophomore year, to spending weekends tailgating and watching sporting events, being a Spartan was the best decision I ever made. What is your favorite spot on campus? All of campus is my favorite. I’ve been here for four years, and I’m still running into new things and places. It’s a beautiful campus and I love that there are so many places to explore and spend time. What are your post graduation plans? Right now, I don’t have set plans. I first wanted to attend med school, and then I turned my focus more towards Vet School, but I think I need to figure out what I definitely want to do before I commit to a decision like that. So, I will be taking at least a year off, looking for a job that I enjoy doing somewhere in a warmer state, and figuring out where I want to go from there.
