This week’s campus celebrity is Raven Oppong-Boateng! Raven is very active on campus at Montclair State University. She works on campus and is involved in clubs which have given her amazing opportunities. Let’s get to know Raven a little bit more!
HCM: What is your favorite type of music?
ROB: My favorite type of music is hip-hop and R&B. But, I’ll listen to anything because good music is good music. I’m a fan of country music and I love music by Rascal Flatts.
HCM: What is your favorite movie?
ROB: My favorite movie is Love and Basketball. I can watch this movie multiple times in one day. I know all the words so I feel like I’m in the movie.
HCM: What are some of your hobbies?
ROB: My hobbies are dancing and painting. I dance in my spare time, go for walks in the park, paint, and I enjoy going to the movies. I’ve always loved art ever since elementary school.
HCM: You dance? That’s so cool, tell us more about it!
ROB: Dancing is my passion. I’ve been dancing for 19 years and dancing competitively for over 10 years. Dancing is more than just a hobby, dancing helps me express myself and I get so much enjoyment out of dancing. In my old house, I used to dance on my marble kitchen floor and my mom would always tease my sister and me because we would always slip and fall, but that never stopped us from twirling on that kitchen floor!
HCM: Now that you are in college, do you still get to dance as much as you used to?
ROB: Yes. I am a part of the Montclair State Dance Company. This is my first year in the club. I have gotten to experience so much being a part of this club. For instance, this year’s amazing showcase and getting to be a part of this year’s Super Bowl half-time show which was awesome and one of the best days of my life; I’m in the crowd of the Bruno Mars performance.
HCM: Now, let’s talk about your major. How did you decide to major in economics?
ROB: I chose to be an economics with a business economics concentration because I enjoy economics but I also wanted to gain knowledge in business as well because I hope to open up a business in the future. I felt that if I have to live in an economy where things are constantly fluctuating that I should get an understanding of it and maybe I could assist in some way in the near future.
HCM: What type of business would you want to open up?
ROB: A dance studio because I want to instill in children what I had instilled in me as a child, discipline, dedication, and passion.
HCM: Lastly, what is something that nobody knows about you?
ROB: I have two! I secretly want to be an actress…maybe one day it’ll happen instead of it just being a dream and my full name has 22 letters in total!
