Prabal Gurung x Target Collaboration Review: Love is in the Air

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

I was half asleep as I was scrolling through my usual news and gossip when I nearly choked on my coffee. Another Target Collaboration, preposterous! As anyone who knows me, I have an unholy obsession with Target–or as I call it Targé. When I scrolled through the Prabal Gurung lookbook, my eyes grew wide and I began to have heart palpitations. The collection was full of dresses, skirts, cardigans, and shoes in a variety of prints and colors.

I knew I had to get my hands on a few items when it came out. The collection was due out February 10th. I live in a county where Target is closed on Sundays so I decided to wait for it to come out online. I should have known that would be difficult; everyone thought once the clock hit midnight they would release the collection but I remember from the previous year (Jason Wu’s collaboration) it had begun to trickle in at 3am.

Well, needless to say I was falling asleep on my Macbook and refreshing the page and Target’s twitter. It all began to trickle in at around 2:40am. They made it difficult to find your items as you had to type the name of the item and what it was in the search bar. I managed to snag the three items I wanted..but then went back and got two more.

By the time the sun rose, it was all gone. I absolutely loved this collection; yes, the quality is not the kind you would get in a real Prabal Gurung product but with the items starting at around $14.99 and the most expensive being the blue leather jacket at $199.99. I think it is an amazing steal especially with all the color and bold prints. I regret not purchasing the sweater but I think I snagged some things that while are very fashion forward, I think I can pull off for the next fear years as florals have been in for a while.

The Floral Dress is a fit and flare dress. A lot of ladies said that it was too much material but I think it will work best for those who have curves–like I do. The First Date print Blouse and Sulfur and Lace Skirt were what I had initially wanted; they will be perfect in my closet and I love the sheer panels on the shoulders of the blouse and the pleats and lace on the skirt. The First Date printed dress is his version of the little black dress, I believe. I love how it has the panel of prints on both sides and not just the front. The Ankle-Strap Wedge was the other item I swooped in on. I have yet to receive it in the mail but I have heard that they run a size large, so sadly I might have to return it or give it to a lucky friend.

The things that flew off the racks the fastest were the shoes which consisted of heels, wedges, and sandals as well as the sweater.  I believe this collection was a winner and it has already nearly sold out in only 2 days! While, I did not go to the store in person (I refuse to after the Jason Wu collection) it was just as stressful on the computer. If you are a hardcore fan, shopaholic, fashionista then it was totally worth it. It was mad even on the laptop. This was a great redemption for Target when their Neiman Marcus collaboration didn’t perform as well as they did.

I will of course do it again in April when Kate Young releases her collection at Target. It looks young and feminine. I think I am just nuts.  What did you ladies think of the collection?
