Get to Know: Lindsay Taylor!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Lindsay Taylor is a sophomore filmmaking student from Hazlet, NJ. You can catch her around campus giving tours as an Undergraduate Admissions Ambassador or if it’s a weekend, working behind the scenes on a film set and running to a S.L.A.M event to get tacos during a lunch break.

HC: What lead you to attend MSU?

LT: The filmmaking BFA program is one of the best around at a four-year school and adheres to industry standards in editing, equipment and concepts that will prepare students for the job market. As for staying in NJ, financially it was a better option and I like being able to go home. It is convenient for me.

HC: What clubs and activities are you involved in at MSU?

LT: I’m an Undergraduate Admissions Ambassador, member of the Montclair State Dance Company and S.L.A.M (Student Life At Montclair)

HC: What’s your favorite thing about your major?

LT: The fact that I’m always being able to collaborate with different people on projects and everyone is always doing something new and exciting.

HC: What’s your favorite class you’ve taken so far?

LT: Film II, I’ve learned so much as a student and it has benefitted me as a filmmaker.

HC: What experience led you to pursue a degree in film?

LT: I always loved watching movies. When I was younger I loved acting. But in high school, I took tv classes and that got me interested in the behind the scenes processes. Instead of being in front of the camera, I learned that I prefer being behind the camera.

HC: What is your proudest moment?

LT: This semester I have been asked to be on sets and people have even asked me to be on their sets next semester, so my proudest moment would be getting my name out there.

HC: Goals for this semester?

LT: Manage my time better. Be on more sets. Apply for internships.

HC: What is something you wish someone had warned you about college?

LT: To keep track of deadlines because they can slip away from you very easily.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

LT: Production Manager/Assistant Director traveling the world with my fiancé or husband.

HC: Who are five women who inspire you and why?

LT: 1. Emma Watson. She is pro women’s rights and she’s a public figure.

2. Ellen DeGeneres. She is a funny comedian and she lifts the spirits of others and gives back to her fans.

3. Patti Dickens. She is a woman from my hometown who runs a charity called RAINE (Reaching All In Need Everyday). The charity gives back to the community during the holiday season with food drives, toy drives and wrapping gifts and delivering them.

4. Susan B. Anthony because she supported women’s rights.

5. My mom. She pushes me to work hard and be a better person.

HC: What is a film set you wish you could have worked on?

LT: Whiplash because it was originally a short film and it was adapted into a feature film. It was filmed in 19 days which was crazy. Knowing that inspires me to work hard on student film sets because I know if something is well planned it can get done in a short amount of time and be great.

HC: The holidays are coming up. Who would invite to your holiday party?

LT: The cast of That 70’s Show, Beyonce, Obamas

HC: What were you for Halloween 2016?

LT: I was part of a cop and robber duo. I was the robber.

HC: What’s your idea of a perfect day?

LT: 70 degrees, sunny and a day spent adventuring in NYC with friends and dinner with family.
