5 Spontaneous Things to Do in NYC This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

As the bitter cold slowly begins to make its way for the beautiful spring and summer season, it’s time to finally enjoy the nice weather! There’s no other place better to enjoy and soak up the beautiful weather and sun except for the city. If you’re feeling spontaneous one nice summer day, here are 5 things to do:

1. Stargazing at the High Line.

Previously being a railroad track, the High Line is now one of the most popular parks people visit, walk across, and relax at, especially when the weather is nice! During the day, you can take a stroll through the park and soak up the sun —  but at night you can get a chance to admire and gaze at rare stars through telescopes provided by the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York!

2. Discovering items at a flea market.

All over the city, there are plenty of flea markets areas to find! On top of enjoying the nice weather outside, you can spend the day searching for unique items or even run into items that you didn’t even think you would need or want —  especially for a good price!

3. The Today Show Summer Concert Series or Good Morning America Summer Concert Series.

NYC is always giving out the perfect opportunities to see a free concert over the summer, especially the Today Show and Good Morning America! This is probably the most spontaneous thing you can to do over the summer since you have to wake up at the crack of dawn for these concerts —  but that makes the experience even more memorable and spontaneous!

4. Watching outdoor movies.

There’s something about watching movies outside that makes it much more enjoyable.  Sitting under the stars with a blanket, on a cool summer night at a park in NYC while watching films is an experience within itself!

5. Seek out trendy ice cream or dessert spots.

We’ve all seen these tasty dessert videos on social media and wondered what these desserts actually tasted like. Luckily, most of these desert spots are located and scattered all throughout New York City —  so why not scout them out? The summer gives you the perfect opportunity to do so! Not only will these trendy ice cream spots be delicious but also Instagram worthy!
