What to do Instead of Scrolling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

Instead of spending countless hours scrolling through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat, try taking that time to do something beneficial.

Reading Books

Reading books for fun is a completely different feeling than reading books for class. It can be such a relief to read something that interests you and knowing once you’re done you don’t have an assignment on it. It is even soothing to listen to an audio book, try turning off the radio and putting a book in.

Bible Studies

If you are religious try opening your bible and do a bible study, alone or with friends. I even suggest buying Jesus Calling and reading from there every day.

Moving

Whether that looks like a walk, yoga, or a high intense workout moving your body is a great way to stay off your phone or computer.

Blogging

Try starting a blog and tell everyone about your crazy life, or read about someone else’s crazy life.

Writing

This is such an old tradition that should be made new again. Send your high school best friend an “I miss you” letter or your grandparents an “I appreciate you” letter. They will appreciate a little hello. If you don’t want to send a letter, free write and don’t stop. Coloring is also a popular trend!

Podcasts

Switching from today’s hits to new episodes on podcasts can be a very informational way to open your mind on things you didn’t think you would. They are super easy to listen to in the car or on your walk to class, and it’s like a TV show where you can’t wait to listen to the next episode. A few I recommend are Serial and Lady Problems.

TED Talks

You can find a Ted Talk on anything. Whatever your interest may be, I’m sure there is a Ted Talk on it.

Volunteering

Spending your time helping others can make you feel good. The Humane Society and other non-profits are a great way to get out of the house and make a difference.
