Early 2000s Trends I Am So Glad Are Over

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

The early 2000’s was a confusing time for fashion. Looking back on some of the choices of what was in-questionable. From the iconic Britney and Justin all-jean look at the 2001 VMA’s to frosted tips, here are some things you definitely wore throughout your childhood that, luckily, have not risen from the dead yet.

1. Gauchos

I admittedly had more than one pair of these, one being brown with gold vertical stripes. Why you ask? To wear the most unflattering pants possible. It’s a no from me, gauchos.

2. Excessive Layering

Feeling the need to wear two camisoles from Limited Too, a long sleeve, a t-shirt, and a blouse on top? Same. Wanting to bury your head in the ground? Same.

3. Juicy Couture Velour Tracksuits

Everybody knows if you showed up to your 7th grade home room wearing one of these on, you were THAT girl. Sure, just having the jacket was cool, but the full tracksuit? Untouchable. Kylie is probably the only person that can do it successfully in 2017.

4. Oversized Clothing on Men

I have no words for this one. Only confusion. And simultaneous relief that it’s over.

5. One word: BELTS

Chunky, studded, spiked, buckles upon buckles. Go home forever chunky belts, you’re drunk.

6. Ed Frickin Hardy

Ed Hardy took extra to a whole other level of extra. Rhinestones, cursive, roses, tigers, just too much for any article of clothing. And anyone who rocked Ed Hardy rocked it HARD. I’m going to need this one to lay down and stay down.

7. Shrugs

Sure, throw a little sequins in there too. Shrugs were thrown over just about anything they could be. Word of advice: it never worked.

So there you have it, early 2000s fashion vomit. These are only some of the injustices people have done to themselves. Let’s hope the few of these that have been resurrected return to the grave and the others rest peacefully forever.
