5 Surprising Matcha Benefits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

Saint Patrick’s Day literally means all green everything… Hair, makeup, clothes, and foods (that shouldn’t chemically possibly be green) become green. But in terms of a daily routine “green” foods in my life are pretty limited. #College am I right? Honestly people who say they “like kale” are one of two things: (1) THEY’RE LYING, or (2) their taste buds are dead. But one green food that I can totally get behind is matcha. Matcha definity went through its fifteen minutes of fame in 2016 because it is “delicious and has amazing health benefits” but does it really? YYAAAASSSS matcha does in fact have benefits, but maybe not the ones you’d think.

1. Calming and Relaxing

Matcha tea can totally be considered as yoga in a cup because of the relaxation-promoting antioxidants.

2. Hella EGCg

Out of all the antioxidants, EGCg is the most widely recognized for its cancer fighting properties. It is said that Matcha Green Tea contains over 100 times more EGCg than any other tea on the market.

3. Anti-Aging Properties

LADIES it is never ever too early to start contemplating anti-aging prevention. Kendall Jenner started wearing anti-aging cream at fifteen so I did, too.

4. A Different Form of Energy

Matcha contains both regular caffeine and also the amino acid theanine. So it vibes off a relaxed but alert mental state, boosting alpha waves in the brain.

5. It Tastes Delish Even Though It’s Green

Seriously, let me know if there’s a healthy green food out in the world that tastes good.
