Smoothies You Can Meal Prep Easily and Quickly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

This sounds a little ridiculous, I know. Smoothies aren’t that hard to make. But, having your smoothie ready to pop in the blender, with just a few simple steps, will save you from grabbing those chips that are sitting in your pantry. Us college girls love convenience, so why do you think it’s so hard to eat healthy in college? We need something fast, efficient and on-the-go that still tastes good, of course.  Try to prep these smoothies at the beginning of the week to ensure healthy snacks all week long!

Step one: Pick your favorite fruits.

Anything like bananas, mango, pineapple or mixed berries. Whatever you like can go into the smoothie! The easiest and most efficient thing to do for smoothies is to buy frozen bags of mixed fruit. This saves you time and energy.

Step two: Pick your greens.

If you’ve never had greens in your smoothies before, do not be scared! You can’t taste them at all, and it is such an easy way to up your greens intake. I always add a huge handful of greens to my smoothies to give me added greens in my day without having to taste them at all. Spinach or kale is a great option!

Step three: Select extra ingredients.

For me, I like more than just fruit in my smoothies. Smoothies are an easy way to get a ton of nutrients into a drink. Add seeds and nut butters to get added protein and healthy fats for a more filling and wholesome smoothie.

Pick two and add them to your list:

-Chia Seeds

-Flax Seeds

-Hemp Hearts

-Peanut Butter

-Almond Butter

-Protein Powder

Step four: Assemble!

Once you have all your ingredients, it’s time to prep! Get a box of large zip lock containers to make your smoothie packs with.  Scoop about a cup into the bag along with a large handful of your greens. Repeat this into separate bags until you have as many as you want for the week. Throw those bags into the freezer.

Step five: Smoothie Time!

When you’re ready to enjoy a smoothie, pick out a smoothie pack from the freezer and grab some milk or water. Add the smoothie pack and your liquid of choice to your blender. Add the two extra ingredients to boost the smoothie. Blend the smoothie, and you are set! A smoothie that’s quick and easy, so you can get out the door in no time at all!
