In light of Amanda Bynes’ recent issues with traffic violations, we’ve decided to take a look at some other child stars from the ‘90s and early ‘00s who have hit some bumps in the road – literally and figuratively – as they have grown up.
1. Lindsay Lohan
Although she was every tween girl’s idol as Hallie Parker and Annie James in The Parent Trap in 1998, Lindsay quickly spiraled downhill as she grew into young adulthood. She was charged with several DUIs, was suspected of using cocaine and even stole a necklace in 2011. Her bizarre family dynamics and court appearances have added to the spectacle. How many more incidents with the law will it take for us to stop caring about Lindsay? The limit does not exist.
2. Macaulay Culkin
After starring in Home Alone as the coolest kid to ever stay home alone for a weekend, Macaulay got into a bit of trouble as a young adult. He racked up drug charges and was married to actress Rachel Miner at age 18. The marriage lasted only two years, but Macaulay has continued to get into a little bit of legal trouble through the years.
3. Britney Spears
After innocently dancing her way into the hearts of America’s teenagers in her “… Baby One More Time” video, Britney continued to captivate America with her catchy pop tunes and iconic dance moves. However, Brit got into some trouble when she married dancer Kevin Federline. After a couple kids and a rocky divorce, Britney hit rock bottom when she busted into a L.A. salon and shaved all her hair off. Britney has since pulled herself together, released several new albums and is starting a new legacy for herself as a judge for The X-Factor. Oh Britney, you drove us crazy, but (thank goodness) now you seem alright!
4. Aaron Carter
After starting out as the adorable little brother to dreamy Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, Aaron quickly got mixed up in the wrong scene. At age 20, he was initially pulled over for speeding and ended being charged with marijuana possession. Clearly, “Aaron’s Party” got a little out of control.
5. Shia LaBeouf
Long after his adorable days on Disney’s Even Stevens, Shia got twisted up in some sketchy business after he refused to leave a Walgreens in Chicago. Later, he was involved in a bizarre car accident that permanently injured his left hand. He’s also reportedly been in a few bar brawls, although those didn’t get him in trouble with the law. Hopefully everyone’s favorite little trouble maker “Louis” can pull himself together before anything serious happens again. After all, what would Ren say?
